Traurig, ja. Aber eine so lange und vielfältige Karriere ist nicht vielen vergönnt. Am liebsten mag ich seine Sachen aus den 50ern, besonders das originale Chico Hamilton Quintet – Collette spielt dort grossartig, soulful, „schwarz“, in Ermangelung eines besseren Wortes. Ganz anders, als man das in einer solchen typischen West Coast Gruppe erwarten würde.
