Cuscuna schreibt in seinen Liner Notes:
When we mixed the music a week or so later, we found we had enough material for two volumes and prepared them for release. The powers that be at Columbia thought that was more than the market would bear, so we had to pare it back to one album. Initially, Onaje’s „All Things Being Equal“ was to have been on the first album Stepping Stones, but when we were limited to one LP, we took „All Things“ out and replaced it with Onaje’s „It All Comes Back to You“ which had more airplay potential. Reviewing the tapes now, we have restored the beautiful „All Things“ at the expense of „It All Comes Back.“ We have also added „Escape Velocity“ which was ultimately issued on the next album Woody III and the previously unissued „Blues for Ball“.
Also darum: wenn Ihr die LP sieht, kauft sie auch, erste Wahl ist aber eindeutig die CD!
Und noch eine kleine Warnung: diese CD war Teil einer Reissue-Reihe, die in den USA ein „rootkit“ enthielt (andere waren: Horace Silver „Silver’s Blue“, Gerry Mulligan „Jeru“, Bob Brookmeyer „& Friends“, Art Blakey „Drum Suite“ und noch ein paar weitere, glaub ich – sonst waren v.a. Pop-CDs davon betroffen). Also wenn möglich europäische CDs kaufen, die waren davon nicht betroffen. Die amerikanischen wurden glaub ich ersetzt, aber jetzt, wo manches vergriffen ist, weiss man da ja nie, was man erwischt…
