Johnny Almond hat nach seiner Lungenkrebs-Diagnose und vier Monate vor seinem Tod noch gemeinsam mit Danny Hull („formerly of the Doobie Brothers“), Robert Berry („former member of the Gregg Allman Band“), Greg Errico („of Sly and the Family Stone“) und Mark-Almond-Keyboarder Mark Ross ein Abschiedskonzert gegeben, in dessen Vorfeld mehrere kurze und der folgende ausführliche Bericht verfasst wurde(n), der einige Informationen über Almonds Leben nach Mark/Almond bietet:

Manches Erwähnte ist definitiv falsch bzw. missverständlich (z.B.: Almond habe das Sax-Solo auf Joels „New York State of Mind“ gespielt, ja auf Mark/Almonds „To the Heart“ und möglicherweise als Mitglied jener Studioband, welche die erste Aufnahme von Joels Album „Turnstiles“ eingespielt hat, die aber von Joel verworfen wurde* – aber sicher nicht auf dem von Joel 1976 veröffentlichtem Album**), manches ist wahrscheinlich, aber ungesichert (Jamming mit Jimi Hendrix).
Völlig neu war für mich, dass Almond für die Stones das Hornarrangement für „Honky Tonk Women“ geschrieben und/oder organisiert habe:
When the Stones asked around for the best player to write horn charts for a new tune with a country-western twang, Almond got the recommendation. Getting the lads together in the same place at the same time to record „Honky Tonk Women“ proved to be a challenge.
„I was booked 12 hours a day for four days in the studio, and they didn’t all show up together until the last day,“ Almond says. „Writing the horn parts took about 20 minutes, and when we finally recorded it was done in about one take. They supplied the food and drink, so there was a lot of partying and drinking involved when they weren’t there.“
