An obsession with recently departed musical mentors led The Duke Spirit, holed up in a country retreat, to lay down interpretations of songs by Arthur Lee, Desmond Dekker and Jessie Mae Hemphill. The essentially home-made results are a narcotic blend of psychedelia and melancholic blues which bear The Duke Spirit hallmark of sonic defiance. The first and last Velo release for 2006 is a two-pronged assault; a limited edition 7” and simultaneous limited period download.
