Sun Ra – Sound Of Joy (1956)
Hatten wir dieses Album hier schon? Noch vor Jazz In Sillhouette aufgenommen, auch noch deutlich im traditionellen Jazz zwischen Swing und Bop verhaftet, aber auch schon mit einem kräftigen exotischen Einschlag und das nicht nur in so einem Stück wie Overtones Of China, das mit einem Schlag auf den Gong anfängt. Sun Ra spielt nicht nur ein kantiges Klavier sondern auch Wurlitzer E-Piano, Pat Patrick fällt am Bariton und der Drummer mit seinen Pauken auf. Mit Saturn enthält Sound Of Joy auch einen von Sun Ras signature tunes. Klingt schon sehr charakteristisch nach Sun Ra. Großartige Platte, die Jazz In Silhouette in nichts nachsteht. Und das Cover ist natürlich fantastisch!
