mal ein Versuch… das ganze ist die übliche zwängerei, wo man so tun muss, als begänne der Jazz so um 1954, Basie, Ellington, Lunceford, Lester Young, Bud Powell, fehlen ganz, von Bird hab ich was dreingenommen, da gäb’s natürlich noch viel mehr, ebenso von Monk und Getz, um zwei moderne zu nennen, die noch vor der LP Zeit ein paar ihrer schönsten Aufnahmen gemacht haben.
Die zweite Liste soll einen groben Eindruck geben, was sonst noch so in die erste hätte kommen können – hab mir Mühe gegeben, selektiv zu sein (das erklärt auch schon die Frage, wo denn Cannballs „Somethin‘ Else“ ist… nicht da, weil ich „Nippon Soul“ und „In Europe“ lieber mag!)
Ein wenig geschummelt habe ich bei Tatum und dem Jazz-Scene Set – letzteres war aber ein Album (ein Album war ja ursprünglich ein Bündel von 78er Schellack-Platten, die eben zu einem „Album“ zusammengefasst wurden) und ermöglicht auf einen Schlag, ein klein wenig Ellington, Bird, Hawkins, Willie Smith etc. drinzuhaben.
