Next week is fun-filled for the Frank Zappa fetishist, as MOJO releases its Frank Zappa Special Edition, hitting the UK newsagents‘ shelves on Thursday, November 4, and North London’s Roundhouse venue opens its doors on a weekend of Zappa-related activity, November 5-7.
The former is a dedicated 148-page magazine commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Zappa’s birth. Zappa experts David Fricke, Barry Miles, Phil Alexander and Simpsons creator Matt Groening join former partners in crime including Alice Cooper, Kim Fowley and Jello Biafra in delivering the ultimate print portrait of the abstruse master. Meanwhile, Frank Zappa At The Roundhouse offers a fund of Zappa-orientated performances between November 5 and 7. Among them, London Contemporary Orchestra performing The Yellow Shark on the Friday evening; Saturday November 6 sees Zappa Plays Zappa plus a cameo by The Mighty Boosh Band. On the Sunday, the London Sinfonietta perform The Adventures of Greggery Peccary. Meanwhile, the weekend will be studded with Q&A sessions with the likes of Gail Zappa, Dweezil Zappa and Zappa lieutenant Scott Thunes, among others.
