An open e-mail to the ZFT:
Dear sir/madam,
can you please make some form of announcement re. the ‚Zappa plays Zappa‘ tour?
I, like many others, bought tickets within hours of their release and have been anxiously awaiting further details ever since. I have tried calling 818-PUMPKIN repeatedly and have never managed to get an answer and zappa.com appears to have been deserted some considerable time ago.
The only info. i’ve managed to gleam was in the form of a brief interview on BBC breakfast news, so you can perhaps imagine my shock when a friend called me this afternoon to tell me that the tour is cancelled.
He had tickets booked for the RAH show in London and has received an e-mail from the venue asking him to either return the tickets by September of this year or wait until 2nd June of next year. When I called my local venue (Manchester Apollo) the have informed me that they ‚are not aware of any cancellation or postponement‘.
I attempted to contact Clear Channel Entertainment, in an effort to clarify the situation, only to be asked to call back on Monday as the person I was speaking to ‚wasn’t able to deal with the Zappa tour details‘.
I appreciate that this was always going to be an ambitious project and that you undoubtedly have more than this tour to worry about in life, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a brief statement from the ZFT.
I have happily spent a vast amount of money and time pursuing my love of Zappa’s work and have every intention of continuing to do so.
However, in future you should think long and hard before expecting fans to buy advance tickets based on good intentions and blind faith.
We all know what happens to people who cry wolf.
Losing revenue may be expensive but losing good-will is priceless.

Hello Dameon,
Yes you are correct to expect to hear from us and it is absolutely our
intention to issue an official statement as soon as possible. and you
are correct in realizing that this is an enormous and complicated
undertaking. For this and other reasons we have a lot of coordinating
to do between all of the parties involved in this venture. So. You
will hear something as soon as we can announce new dates. AS in, the
Tour is not being cancelled – but rather, postponed.
Re Zappa.com and 818.Pumpkin, again, we are relaunching and releasing
new recordings as well as The Dub Room Special on DVD, previously only
available mail order. All of this will be announced officially, soonly
also.

taste in music.
