Und wenn du schon – mir sowieso unverständlciherweise – auf You keep me hanging on verweist, dann aber doch bitte auch auf entsprechende Original-Interpreten Vanilla Fudge.So. Weitermachen!
Song Review by Ed Hogan
Motown's hit songwriting/production trio Holland-Dozier-Holland appreciated the way Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney took creative risks, in the process pushing the expressive envelope of pop music. In order to „fatten“ the sound of the records they produced for the Supremes, they'd have the tight Funk Brothers rhythm section „double“ their parts, having two or more instruments playing the same notes. The technique is especially striking on the driving „You Keep Me Hangin' On“ with doubled lead vocals by Diana Ross. Noted for Robert White's telegraphic guitar line, the track was the most energetic of their biggest chart-topping hits, going to number one R&B for four weeks and number one pop for two weeks in the last half of 1966. Though there were other covers of „You Keep Me Hangin' On,“ most notably Vanilla Fudge's 1967 Top Six pop hit, the Supremes' version remains the definitive version.
