Michael Weiss hat gerade gemeldet, dass Jodie Christian gestorben ist (1932-2012). Ein echter „unsung hero“, der am ehesten als Begleiter von Eddie Harris bekannt sein dürfte.

John Litweiler hat 2002 für JazzTimes einen Artikel über Christian geschrieben:

Sessions. At that time there were a lot of sessions. We would go around town. And a fella’––he wasn’t a musician––took me to this session. And I heard this guy playing, Johnny Griffin. I couldn’t believe those guys were living in the same town I was living in. The only musicians I knew of that caliber were on records, and they lived somewhere else. But these guys were right in my own town, right across the street from me. Malachi Favors and the bass player, Wilbur Ware, who would come to my house. We would play, and my mother would say, “Why are you hanging around with that old man. Get out of here!” [laughs]
