„Who Brings Joy“ scheint er ja zu lieben… :-o
Darauf könnte ich sehr gut verzichten. Ist einer seiner schlechtesten Songs, finde ich.
Finde ich auch.
Aber hier noch ein Bericht von good ‚ol MODjerry:

PAUL WELLER – 08/10/03 House Of Blues -BACK IN THE USA!!!A packed House of Blues on a weeknight? YES, Absolutely! Tonight was THE kickoff performance for PAUL’s acoustic tour of the states with OASIS guitarist, Gem Archer as accompaniment. The set started off with a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the audience and after a quick mention of „Jet-Lag“ and the possible need of „prodding if he dosed off“, PAUL launched into THE LOVED with his ever-charismatic voice, setting the tone for the evening with a soulful, smoky vibe. The performance continued with the truly brilliant, ABOVE THE CLOUDS and showing PAUL, obviously in full-stride and enjoying the song. NEXT was the opener for ILLUMINATION- GOING PLACES, with GEM ARCHER now taking stage left and looking as though he was ready to enjoy the evening as PAUL’s stool-perched partner! The crowd seemed excited to have an OASIS member on stage, joining PAUL on guitar! Onto the beautifully discovered, FLY ON THE WALL and from HELIOCENTRIC one of my all time favourites, DUST AND ROCKS. HE’S THE KEEPER??? Yes, what a barnstormer, even as an acoustic trip. PAUL dedicated it to Ronnie Lane before the song…NEXT up were 2 more diamonds from the ILLUMINATION album, BAGMAN and WHO BRINGS JOY. With the faithful down in front, PAUL and Co. then moved onward into a few older tunes with, AMOUNGST BUTTERFLIES and CLUES. BRAND NEW START was performed next with an interesting variation on guitar from GEM ARCHER. PAUL’s vocal performance throughout the evening was amazing, taking each song and REALLY feeling the words. NOT just singing them, but thinking and feeling them as if they were brand new. Although, PAUL had mentioned of his jet-lag, his voice carried the evening through the peaks and valleys of each songs melody to a custom fit. It was a genuine pleasure to be in such company. It took a few chords into the next song before the crowd actually acknowledged TALES FROM THE RIVERBANK, but once realized, the crowd ROARED to the shadowy tune. It’s a fantastic journey a song like this takes from the days of THE JAM and now a solid part of PAUL’s recent set-lists. IT’S A PLEASURE TO WITNESS THE JOURNEY AND VARIATIONS A BEAUTIFUL SONG LIKE THIS MAKES Lyrically a masterpiece, a tune full of colour and mystery. Another lyrical and musical delight was the sobering and concerned FRIGHTENED, where PAUL switched over to the large black grand piano. Directly after, PAUL brought an uplifting contrast in the set with THE STYLE COUNCIL’s HEADSTART FOR HAPPINESS, which always brings back the good memories of the „long hot summer“ of 1983! It is amazing how PAUL’s music has been such a sound track to our lives. A true testament to not only his words, but of the musical talent and the manner in which they are refreshingly performed. PAUL finds his strength through his songs in his LIVE PERFORMANCE, some of which can be recently witnessed on the NEW DVD – LIVE AT BRAEHEAD. Getting close to the last group of song’s into tonight’s performance were some stellar classics- Literally, one right after the other- THE JAM’s fantastic ENGLISH ROSE, said to have made „grown men weep“, which includes my old self here. The beautiful and atmospheric, COUNTRY from WILDWOOD and lastly the twilight, LOVELESS with it’s solemn plea. One of PAUL’s greatest songs. With rapturous applause and a few scattered WELLA, WELLA chants, PAUL and GEM ARCHER return with a 2 song encore- FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN and the pub-fueled THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT! Then, with great swiftness, it is all over… house lights UP and the stage curtain drawn. A brilliant performance by a man embarking on a nation-wide acoustical journey. A journey of old friends and stories, a journey of an amazing ever-changing talent. It is nice to live on a planet that has PAUL WELLER. It truly is.

Klingt gut.
Ich weiß aber nicht, ob Jerry auch ernsthaft schreiben würde, dass ihm ein Weller-Gig nicht so gefallen hätte – er ist wohl der #1 US-Wella-Fella! :D
