PAUL WELLER is at the centre of a multi-million pound bidding war after he was dumped by his record label.VICTORIA BECKHAM’s record label Telstar, Sanctuary Records and RICHARD BRANSON’s V2, whose roster includes TOM JONES, are lining up to sign the former Jam star.
They are putting big-money deals on the table after Weller was dropped by his bosses at Independiente for demanding £2million to do an album.
The company, who he had been with for ten years, turned down The Modfather fearing they wouldn’t recoup their money. But rival record labels have no such fears.
An insider at one of the competing companies said: „Paul has a massive following and his albums still go in at No1. “
„He is a very well respected artist whose name adds a lot of credibility to a record label.“
„It will only be a matter of time before he is signed up again.“
When he was dropped the angry singer said: „The state of play at record companies these days is if you don’t sell f****** millions it’s deemed a failure.“
