2. Portishead – We Carry On
2011 setzten Portishead zum zweiten Mal die Silver Apples auf den Spielplan der All Tomorrow’s Parties-Festival-Reihe und dieses Mal trugen sie der verehrten Legende mit „We Carry On“ aus ihrem dritten Album Third auch ein Ständchen (bzw. tribute) vor. Geoff Barrow äußerte später schmunzelnd die Berfüchtung, dass Simeon darauf axtschwingend die Bühne stürmen und ihnen nachjagen würde, von wegen sie hätten seinen Sound und seine Songs geklaut.
Doch diese Sorge war unbegründet. Im Jahr darauf ließ Simeon im Online-Magazin thequietus verlauten:
„Please don’t think me presumptuous if I say: I feel like we are musical cousins. The depth of their commitment to excellence is an inspiration to me, as is the honesty of their artistry. I list Third [as my favourite record] because it is what I have in front of me, but I could pick out any of their releases and say the same thing.
Portishead make me proud to be an artist.“
