Randy Newman – Little Criminals

Bei Randy Newman bin ich bis zum heutigen Tage hin und her gerissen.
Er gehört mit seinen bissigen, sarkastischen und oft bitteren Texten zu den besten Erzählern unter den Songwritern. Ein Journalist lies sich mal so über Newman aus: „Newman wäre eigentlich ein noch besserer Drehbuchautor als Songwriter, denn auf einem einzigen Album dieses Mannes erscheinen mehr authentische Charaktere, als sie eine Vielzahl von Hollywood-Langweilern in ihrer gesamten Laufbahn zustande bringen.“ Für mich fast einmalig, wie scharfsinnig er beobachtet und dieses dann genial in seinen Texten umsetzt.
Die Arrangements, die musikalische Umsetzung oder auch die Orchestrierung jedoch lassen mich jedoch hier und da wenig überzeugt zurück. „Little criminals“ sehe ich auch nach „Sail away“ als seine beste Veröffentlichung.

Onkel TomInsgesamt ja eine gute Bewertung. Aber warum „verweigerst“ du ausgerechnet „Baltimore“ die Höchstwertung. Das ist doch Gänsehaut pur. „Rider“ kommt auch etwas zu schwach weg.

Ich habe mehr auf die Reihenfolge geachtet. Die *****-Sterner fand ich alle besser als „Baltimore“ und das wiederum besser als die ganzen ****-Sterner. Und „Rider“ eignet sich bei Konzerten sicherlich klasse zum Mitsingen,aber mir ist dieser Song irgendwie zu platt, textlich wie musikalisch.
