I’m sure that many YES fans knew that Steven Wilson was in no way finished with is remixes of YES classics. Thus far, we have The Yes Album, Close To The Edge, Fragile, and Relayer. All of those were well done and definitely worth the re-acquisition of those titles. With many other YES albums still available to be given the blessed Steven Wilson treatment, there are those of us with specific titles in our variable wishlists. (For me, I want Going For The One, too!) But there is one title that we can now scratch off our wishlists. That’s Tales From Topographic Oceans.

Tales of Topographic Oceans was a polarizing album for many YES fans. It came a year after the brilliance of Close to The Edge, long a favorite of most YES fans. Close To The Edge was/is a rich exploration of music, lyrics, thought, and reflection. Immediately, the hopes are high for its follow-up. When Tales From Topographic Oceans arrived, it was dismissed by some as being excessive and too far out to be accepted as a Rock album. To complicate matters, it was released as a double LP. Wakeman seemed to be displeased with the direction taken and left the band after the album’s release to pursue his own solo career.

Despite what fans feel about Tales Of Topographic Oceans, it is still a clear snapshot of the progression of YES at that time. Personally, I enjoyed the direction. Relayer (with Patrick Moraz) would follow up Tales Of Topographic Oceans, going back to a more Close To The Edge style of Rock.

Steven Wilson announced today that he has completed a THREE YEAR effort to remix Tales From Topographic Oceans. His promise is that it will be released at a point this year. Yes, we don’t have a date yet. Or any other info concerning the content aside form the original album. Of course, I’m sure we’ll get the usual UK vinyl needle drop, the new Stereo and 5.1 mixes, as well as the content found on the Rhino remasters. But with Wilson, I’m sure he’s found some other gems to include.

    FLEETWOOD MAC – „Mirage“
    (VÖ: 29.07.16 [USA])

Leider schon wieder ’ne Combo, wo CD und DVD Vinyl beigepackt werden musste  ; kommt auch als Doppel-CD ( = Discs 1 und 2).

Mirage was the band’s third U.S. No. 1 album following Fleetwood Mac and Rumours, and spun off classic hits including “Gypsy” (No. 12 U.S.) and “Hold Me” (No. 4 U.S.) as well as “Oh Diane” (No. 9 U.K.) and “Straight Back” (No. 36 U.S. Rock). The original album has been newly-remastered for all formats.

The new deluxe and expanded editions of the album both boast a second disc featuring 19 outtakes and rarities (all but two of which are never-before-released). Among the previously unreleased recordings are early versions of album tracks such as “Empire State” and “Book Of Love,” plus outtakes of songs that didn’t make the final album sequence, like “If You Were My Love” and “Smile At You.” The disc also includes a previously unreleased cover of the Fats Domino classic “Blue Monday,” as well as the rare, extended mix for “Gypsy” that was used in the music video.

The third disc (exclusive to the Deluxe box set edition) has 13 live performances recorded in Los Angeles during the band’s 1982 U.S. tour supporting Mirage. “You Make Loving Fun,” “Rhiannon,” “Tusk” and “The Chain” all appear alongside Mirage favorites “Love In Store,” “Eyes Of The World” and “Gypsy.” The Deluxe-exclusive DVD features producer Ken Caillat’s new 5.1 surround mix; the original stereo mix is also on the disc in 96/24 resolution.

    DIO
A new box set from Rhino Records celebrates the life and work of the late metal legend Ronnie James Dio with the band that bore his last name.

A Decade of Dio 1983-1993 collects all six studio albums released by Warner Bros. and Reprise in the first decade of the band Dio’s soaring career. Formed by Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice after their split from Black Sabbath in 1982, the group first gained prominence with the title track of debut Holy Diver, a staple of MTV and a recurring metal cult classic.

Dio’s distinctive vocals were the centerpiece of the band, which featured a somewhat revolving group of members in its day. Holy Diver was recorded as a quartet with Dio, Appice, guitarist Vivian Campbell and bassist Jimmy Bain. Keyboardist Claude Schnell joined for The Last in Line and Sacred Heart; during the Sacred Heart Tour, Campbell left (he’d later join Whitesnake) and was replaced by Craig Goldy for the fourth album, Dream Evil.

Dio cleaned house entirely for 1990’s Lock Up the Wolves, recruiting guitarist Rowan Robertson, bassist Teddy Cook, keyboardist Jens Johansson and drummer Simon Wright. Dio and Appice would rejoin Black Sabbath for the one-off Dehumanizer in 1992, after which the duo again rebuilt Dio around themselves, guitarist Tracy G, and bassist Jeff Pilson for their final Reprise-era album, Strange Highways, in 1993. Dio would release albums independently through the ’90s and ’00s with various new and old members; Goldy and Wright were in the band when Dio succumbed to stomach cancer in 2010.

A Decade of Dio, available July 22, newly remasters all the Warner-era material (the latter two albums receiving their first digital remaster) on six CDs with new box artwork by Marc Sasso, who designed several covers and tributes for Dio. A vinyl version, to be released October 4, comes with a bonus 7″ single collecting two more studio tracks: an early version of Sacred Heart‘s “Evil Eyes” as heard on the “Holy Diver” single, and “Time to Burn,” the sole studio track from the live mini-album Intermission in 1986.

Disc 1: Holy Diver (originally released as Warner Bros. Records 23836, 1983)
Disc 2: The Last in Line (originally released as Warner Bros. Records 25100, 1984)
Disc 3: Sacred Heart (originally released as Warner Bros. Records 25292, 1985)
Disc 4: Dream Evil (originally released as Warner Bros. Records 25612, 1987)
Disc 5: Lock Up the Wolves (originally released as Reprise Records 26212, 1990)
Disc 6: Strange Highways (originally released as Reprise Records 45527, 1993)

    Bonus 7″ with vinyl box
1.Evil Eyes (version from “Holy Diver” single – Vertigo DIO 1 (U.K.), 1983)
2.Time to Burn (from Intermission – Warner Bros. Records 25443, 1986)

    KING CRIMSON
It’s a post that many of us have been anxiously awaiting for. The announced arrivals of the Steve Wilson Stereo and 5.1 remixes of two Adrian Belew-period King Crimson classics, Beat (1982), and Three Of A Perfect Pair (1984).

Those two have been completed by Steve Wilson for some time just awaiting the decision to release by DGM. Yesterday, DGM went on record as saying that these two will arrive during October of 2016. No date has been set as of yet other than October. What’s worse, we don’t know (yet), other than the original album, what the other content is going to be.

What we do know additionally is that DGM will also be releasing a new King Crimson Box, On And Off The Road 1981-1984. Both Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair – with the entire content of both packages – will be included in the Box, as likely, Discipline (1981) will be (I’m assuming).

The content of all three packages (Beat/Three Of A Perfect Pair/On And Off The Road 1981-1984) will be revealed in a few weeks by DGM.

    EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER

Late last year, the news that Emerson. Lake & Palmer has signed the global rights to their complete catalog over to Germany’s BMG label was announced along with the promise to reissue the first seven albums from that grand catalog. Well, that promise is about to come true.

On July 29, BMG will reissue the first three ELP albums (Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Tarkus, Pictures At An Exhibition), as well as a massive 3CD career-spanning collection, Emerson, Lake & Palmer – The Anthology.

The first two albums (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Tarkus)will be reissued as 2CD sets that will include (as I understand it) the 2012 Steven Wilson remasters and remixes of each set. If you have already attained earlier reissues of these, then these may not be all that exciting for you. Still, keeping the band in the light as they have managed to be kept since their Shout! Factory reissues, to me, is a good thing. Pictures At An Exhibition, however, will be reissued with a new 2016 remaster of the original album, plus add in the bonus track of the five-part “Pictures At An Exhibition” as performed at the Mar Y Sol Festival in Puerto Rico on December 4, 1972. The second CD will offer a fifteen-track Live set, Live At the Lyceum Theatre, London, December 9, 1970.

What is most of interest to me is the 3CD Anthology package. It’s is expected to contain 39 tracks and to be cased in a specially designed book-styled housing. This will present new liner notes, more photographs, and potentially other good things.

BMG will reissue Trilogy, Brain Salad Surgery, and Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never End…Ladies And Gentlemen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer later in 2016.

A visual 2 disc set, It Never Happened, features promo, live and archive material, and most of the footage has not been issued commercially on DVD until now. The project includes a complete 1979 Hunter Ronson concert from London’s Hammersmith Odeon and a TV film from the same tour, live in Toronto. Collectively, the albums and DVD’s offer music fans a rock ‘n’ roll jackpot of over 400 tracks!

Lavishly presented in an LP-size deluxe box with custom Escher-style cover, the collection also contains an 88-page hardback book with comprehensive essay, rare memorabilia and Ian Hunter “Track by Track” for every song, a stunning facsimile Shades newspaper featuring classic historic press features, an Alien Boy lithograph personally signed by Ian and original and brand new album artwork in replica card sleeves.
