Hold on Magnolia to that great highway moonJa, wirklich ganz hervorragend. Ich hatte sie jahrelang nicht gehört und jetzt bekomme ich sie nicht vom Teller.

Es gibt sicher Leute, die sich an der extremen Sparsamkeit stören (mehr als Gesang und Gitarre ist da ja eigentlich nicht, wenn ich es noch halbwegs richtig in Erinnerung) habe, dazu dieser knisternde, pure Sound, als würde Jason Molina auf einem Stuhl neben einem diese herzblutgefüllten Tracks singen. Generell aber auch: Die Songs. So was Rührendes wie „Everything should try again“ hat er nur ganz ganz selten geschrieben.

Ich kenne von Molina leider bei weitem nicht alles, es ist auch sehr unüberschaubar, aber die Sachen, die hier stehen, liebe ich alle heiß und innig (die letzten vier Songs:Ohia Alben, die zwei Soloreleases und die „Journey on“ Singlecollection). Alles hoch und höher, unter Prädikat „sehr gut“ steht da kein Werk und mir wachsen die Werke eher noch mehr ans Herz, von Jahr zu Jahr. Speziell „The Magnolia Electric Co.“, mit dem ich lange stilistisch ein wenig gefremdelt habe, höre ich mittlerweile am meisten. Los gings damals mit „The lioness“ und da war direkt alles für eine neue Lieblingsband angelegt
Und klar: Man darf nicht sterben, ohne „Didn’t it rain“ gehört zu haben. Vor allem den Titeltrack.
