Der Lebensgefährte einer Freundin will sich in das Gesamtwerk von Paul Weller einhören. Um ihm den Einstieg zu erleichtern, möchte ich ihm eine Auswahl vorlegen, und zwar je 10 Tracks von The Jam, The Style Council, Paul Weller solo und Paul Weller in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen. Es müssen nicht unbedingt die besten Tracks sein, aber sie sollten die Vielfalt der Musik widerspiegeln und insgesamt ein schlüssiges Bild des Gesamtwerkes ergeben. Ich weiß, 10 Tracks sind nicht viel, aber mir wäre an euren Listen (mit oder ohne Ranking ist egal) gelegen. Ich mache mal den Anfang (ohne Ranking):

Kollaborationen würde ich ganz knicken, das brauchen nur Hardcore-Fans. Für die Liste von The Jam würde ich unbedingt The Eton Rifles und The Bitterest Pill vorsehen – anstatt von Beat Surrender und Riverbank etwa.

Für die Weller-Solo-Liste empfehle ich Brand New Start und Wild Wood. (Wie kann das nicht in der Liste sein?) Und Sunflower! Sunflower!

„Beat Surrender“ würde ich drin lassen, ansonsten noch „Man in the Cornershop“ und „When You’re Young“ einpflegen.

Mit Wellers Solo-Alben bin ich nicht so gut vertraut, aber „Sunflower“ und „You Do Something To Me“ sind natürlich Pflichtprogramm in einer solchen Liste.

Mit der Jam-Auswahl stimme ich noch am ehesten überein, statt Shopping wäre bei mir auf jeden Fall In the city enthalten.

Für TSC würde ich nur Walls Come Tumbling Down, Shout to the Top und My Ever Changing Moods aus Deiner Liste nehmen und dann auf jeden Fall Speak like a child, Headstart for happiness, The Big Boss Groove, Whole point of no return, Boy who cried wolf, The cost of loving und How she threw it all away auswählen.

Solo bräuchte für mich nicht Uh-huh-oh-yeah, sondern eher Bull rush, Wild wood, Sunflower, Hung up, Out of the sinking und vielleicht auch durchaus was von der Neuen!

Ich bin der gleichen Meinung wie andere, dass Du die Kollaborationen weglassen solltest. Ich würde stattdessen die Aufteilung wie folgt machen: 10 x Jam (Best – Meinung von allen), 10 x Style Council (Best – Meinung von allen), 10 x Solo (Best – Meinung von allen) und 10 x Mixed (Deine eigenen Favouriten). Damit kannst Du es verschmerzen, wenn einer Deiner Liebligssongs es nicht in die Best – Liste schafft und ihn in Deine eigene Liste aufnehmen. Ebenso könntest Du eine Kollaboration aufnehmen.

Gar nicht so leicht. Ich habe versucht, dem Schaffen gerecht zu werden und deswegen auch Zeug TSC Post 1986 reingenommen. Beim Soloschaffen ist es fast unmöglich, das auf zehn Tracks zu reduzieren. Kollaborationen würde ich auch rauslassen.
