Hat schon jemand die „Help“ – DVD, welche nun auch seit dem 2. November ’07 bei Amazon bestellt werden kann? Bin gerade ein wenig traurig. Der Preis hatte mich solange nicht abgeschreckt, bis ich gelesen hab, dass der Film auf Englisch ist. Auch okee, aber ne‘ deutschsprachige Variante wäre mir lieber gewesen.

As he rolls out a new DVD and expanded edition of his latest album, Paul McCartney is predicting the Beatles‘ catalog will make its long-awaited and long-desired arrival in the digital realm next year.McCartney tells Billboard.com that „it’s all happening soon. Most of us are all sort of ready. The whole thing is primed, ready to go — there’s just maybe one little sticking point left, and I think it’s being cleared up as we speak, so it shouldn’t be too long. It’s down to fine-tuning, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be happening next year, 2008.“
McCartney adds that any delays in bringing the Fabs‘ music to the Internet have been due to „contractual“ issues as well as deliberate planning by all parties involved. „You’ve got to get these things right,“ he explains. „You don’t want to do something that’s as cool as that and in three years time you think, ‚Oh God, why did we do that?!“

BEATLES ALMOST RECORDED REVOLVER AT STAX

2008-01-14 08:38:19 –THE BEATLES came close to recording their landmark REVOLVER album at soul Mecca Stax but security concerns forced the Fab Four to scrap plans to head for Memphis, Tennessee.
The group’s manager Brian Epstein visited Stax’s base on McLemore Avenue, where the likes of Otis Redding and Booker T & The MGs cut albums, in 1966.
But, when news of the plans spread and was picked up by the local media, the idea was scrapped and The Beatles recorded Revolver at Abbey Road in London.
Former Stax publicist Deanie Parker, who now runs the Stax Museum on the site of the studios, admits the Beatles even had a two-week session booked for 09 April, 1966.
She tells Britain’s Mojo magazine, „I was seeing dollar signs. I talked to (Stax founder) Jim Stewart and said, ‚If The Beatles do come, will you give me permission to take the carpet up, cut it into squares and sell it?'“ Stax songwriter Johnny Keyes reveals even Elvis Presley got involved, offering to put The Beatles up at his nearby Graceland mansion for the duration of their stay in Memphis.
He adds, „It went back and forth, and Epstein left town because he didn’t want to get in the middle of it. The session never happened.“ Booker T & The MGs star Steve Cropper, who actually met The Beatles briefly, muses, „Who knows what might’ve happened? It's too hot in here.Die Firma Fuego Entertainment Inc. hat gestern verkündet, es hat 15 noch nie veröffentlichte Lieder der „Beatles“ erworben. Die Aufnahmen wurden 1962 im Star Club in Hamburg gemacht.
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison und Ringo Starr, haben vor nur 20 oder 30 Leuten gespielt. Die Originalaufnahmen dieses live Konzerts waren für über 33 Jahre „verschollen“, in der Musiksammlung des legendären Musikproduzenten und Promoter Jeffrey Collins.
Der Star Club hat die meisten Musiker die bei ihnen in den 50ger und 60ger Jahren aufgetreten sind aufgezeichnet, welche unter einem Vertrag mit diesen so vereinbart wurde. Viele dieser Aufnahmen wurden dann von Polydor veröffentlicht. Nur dieses Band der Beatles wurde an Jeffrey Collins verkauft.
Dies ist eine historisch wichtige Aufnahme, weil darin Ringo Starr zum ersten Mal den bisherigen Drummer Pete Best ersetzte.

Q: Last year, Olivia mentioned that the Beatles catalog was being remastered for CD and the packages would be expanded with good artwork, more photos, et cetera. What can you tell me about that?
A: That’s a very leading question, and you’re such a politician about it. I have the choice to say she’s right, or she’s not right, is that what it is? I’m just joking.
We are, naturally, making it good on design. But I don’t think it’s just that. I saw what George and Giles Martin did with the Beatles songs in ‘Love’ — that’s rather powerful, and revolutionary too, in a very quiet way. There’ll be some things that will be done that will make it much more current, I think.
Q: Is there a time frame on the project?
A: The time frame is when we feel that it’s done right. I think that’s true with any artwork, it has to be done right. Especially, the Beatles have that tradition of wanting to share something with the fans when it’s really right. And so it has to be done right, that’s all.
Q: How are things at Apple now that Neil’s gone?
A: I think that Jeff Jones, obviously, brought in some fresh air, and it’s all very exciting. But it doesn’t mean that Neil did a bad job — Neil was a part of the whole history, and he was doing a brilliant job. It’s just that sometimes it’s good to go through some changes, and we decided to do that.
Q: What about the ‘Let it Be’ DVD? Years ago, Neil was saying it was being readied.
A: (laughing) You know, life is a long time. And I hope you have a very long one, Bill.

„Fünfter Beatle“ ist tot
Der als „fünfter Beatle“ bekanntgewordene Freund und Finanzmanager der britischen Superband ist tot: Neil Aspinall starb mit 66 Jahren.
Das teilten die Ex-Beatles Paul McCartney und Ringo Starr sowie die Witwen von John Lennon und George Harrison am Sonntag in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung mit.
„All seine Freunde und Verwandten werden ihn sehr vermissen, aber sie werden stets liebevolle Erinnerungen an einen großartigen Mann bewahren“, heißt es in der auch von Yoko Ono und Olivia Harrison unterzeichneten Erklärung. Aspinall sei „ein loyaler Freund und enger Vertrauter“ gewesen.
McCartney eilte an Aspinalls Krankenbett
Paul McCartney war am Osterwochenende eigens nach New York geflogen, um seinen einstigen Liverpooler Schulkameraden in der dortigen Sloan-Kettering-Krebsklinik zu besuchen, wie die Londoner Zeitung „Daily Mail“ berichtete.
Neil Aspinall hatte sich über Jahrzehnte als Chef von Apple Corps um die Geschäftsinteressen der Beatles und ihrer Familien gekümmert. Anfangs hatte er als Fahrer für die Band gearbeitet. Für deren ersten Auftritt unter dem Namen The Beatles in Großbritannien im Dezember 1960 hatte er die Plakate gemalt.
Auch auf einigen Platten der „Pilzköpfe“ ist Aspinall zu hören, meist an exotischen Instrumenten, bei der Aufnahme von „Yellow Submarine“ sang er auch im Background. Beatles-Produzent George Martin, der selbst von den Medien gern „fünfter Beatle“ genannt wurde, schrieb in seinen Memoiren, wenn überhaupt jemand diesen Titel verdiene, dann Aspinall. jk/dpa
