rough trade exclusive with a bonus five track cd. following a number of highly-acclaimed singles, smoke fairies release their much-anticipated debut album, ‚through low light and trees‘, on v2 / cooperative music. recorded at sawmills studio in cornwall with producer head (best known for his work with pj harvey) at the controls, ‚through low light and trees‘ is an exquisitely shivery blend of alternative folk-rock and a more humid, bluesy brand of americana , a sound both eerily ancient and thrillingly modern, with beautifully interlocking harmonies and guitar parts behind the spectral melodies. 20009 saw them tour with richard hawley across britain and be produced by jack white for a third man-released 7″, while this year they were heralded as one of the band’s to see at sxsw and supported laura marling in the us. most recently jessica and katherine added angelic backing vocals to richard hawley’s current ep ‚false lights from the land‘. when the calibre of white and hawley are entranced, you know this isn’t fairy-tale, but the absolute truth.

Earlier this year, on a wintry day we journeyed west to rural Cornwall to record our album.
We arrived that evening in a small fishing village just as a rain shower was setting in. Supplied with torches we were guided along a quarry railway track and up a woodland path until we could see the lights of Sawmill studio glowing across the creek. Our producer, Head, who had arrived a few minutes earlier to find a deserted studio spotted our torch-lights and greeted us with a loud shout that echoed through the silent woods.
As we spent the first few days playing and recording the songs live we were able to watch the tide come and go through the studio windows and monitor its height in relation to the full moon that occurred halfway through our 10 days there. All of us were effected by the rising tides, bird watching, boat trips and hearing the eerie quarry train at night and as the recordings developed we felt the atmosphere of the location seep into the songs.
We are pleased to announce the results of our efforts ‚Through Low Light and Trees‘ is to be released on Monday 6th September in the UK with EU, Japan, Australia & a USA release following soon after.
This Monday (July 19th) we will be making one of the album tracks, ‘Strange Moon Rising’ available for you to hear so please check the www.SmokeFairies.com site after 6pm BST.

The Limited Edition Box
The Smoke Fairies deluxe version of the Through Low Light and Trees album is available exclusively from Smokefairies.com
The box is handmade in wood with a screen-printed lid, inside the box comes the limited version of the CD itself with mini gatefold sleeve, An A2 silkscreen cut into 16 x A6 two-colour mini prints designed and executed by the Smoke Fairies. Lyric book containing all the lyrics to the songs on the album and an exclusive signed photograph of Katherine and Jessica. (each picture in each box is actually different and unique and is taken using a Fuji Instax camera)
There are strictly 100 of these boxes and each will be hand numbered on the base.

Eine limitierte (CD) Version des neuen Albums mit Bonus-CD gibt es exklusiv bei Rough Trade.
Live darf man die neuen Stücke dann im November genießen (23.11 Hamburg, Molotov, 24.11. Berlin, Comet Club).

Die Vinyl-Ausgabe des Albums ist wohl endlich lieferbar.
Außerdem gibt es den Track „Hotel Room“ als Singleauskopplung, die 7“ Single kann hier geordert werden – limitiert auf 300 Exemplare, also vielleicht nicht zu lange warten…

Nachdem ich die überdimensionale (aber schöne) CD-Holzbox schon besitze, warte ich sehnsüchtig auf die Vinyl LP und die Single.

Die Box habe ich mir auch zugelegt. Sehr feines Teil… schöne Idee mit der Blume, die sich einem beim Öffnen entgegenreckt.
