xfmPaul Weller has announced he will be performing live at Rough Trade East for Record Store Day this Saturday.
He will play the record shop at 8pm on April 20 – the same day as he releases two brand new tracks as part of the celebration of independent music retailers.
Flame-Out! and The Olde Original are being released as a double a-side 7″ single.
Paul will be performing a 30 min set in the surrounds of the store with help from Pete O’Hanlon and Josh McClorey from upcoming Irish group The Strypes and drummer Jay Sharrock from Miles Kane’s band.
From 8am Tuesday April 16, there will be 250 wristbands only available from Rough Trade East to give away – first come, first served.
This wristband will guarantee them entry to Paul Weller’s performance only.
However Xfm has scored a pair of wristbands to give away – the only ones that you can get aside from queing up tomorrow – to be in with a chance of winning listen to Jon Hillcock on the Xfm Evening Show tonight (April 15) from 7pm.--

Ist doch Scheiße die Songs vor dem Samstag zu posten. Null Feingefühl für den RSD! Am besten die 2 Stücke über den Youtube-Ripper sofort konvertieren und am Samstag zuhause bleiben. Mann oh mann! So was diskutiert man nach dem RSD u. nicht Tage vorher.

Ja, leider mau, wie ein uninspirierter Neuaufguss von „Green“. Simon Dines Abschied bedeutet leider nicht, dass sich Wellers Songwriting gebessert hat, wie ich insgeheim gehofft hatte.

Half a century on from the beginnings of his public & jazz poetry mission with ‘Blues For The Hitchhiking Dead’ et al, Michael Horovitz is as active and inspirational as ever, composing & performing new poetry, songs and music, publishing New Departures anthologies and staging multimedia events.
On both the LP Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues and the single Ballade Of The Nocturnal Commune / Extra Time Meltdown, Michael is accompanied in the studio by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Paul Weller.
The tracks were recorded at Paul Weller’s Black Barn Studio and Damon Albarn’s Studio 13, then mixed at Studio 13. They are released for Record Store Day alongside ‘Blues For The Hitchiking Dead’, and prove that musicians and poets go on mixing it up, blowing minds, and conveying ever newer departures to new generations with their dynamic concerted avant-garde soundscapes.
Paul Weller found that: „…It was my absolute pleasure to work on these recordings with Michael. Damon and Graham. I am a big fan of all three of these artists and just to be so free with all the music and ideas was a real buzz. A lot of fun and no egos in the way. Fabulous. The end results are amongst some of the best things I’ve ever worked on“.
Michael Horovitz was delighted that “… Paul & Damon, long-standing comrades of mine on diverse artistic collaborations, in personal and artistic collaborations, were both equally enthusiastic about the prospect of jamming with one another, Graham and myself. They had never played together before. Graham and Paul had dug one another, and Graham is featured on Paul’s recent ‘Sonik Kicks’ album – which also included the text of my ‘Bankbusted Nuclear Detergent Blues’ which Paul had commissioned me to write. So I stretched out in free form rhapsodies with the entire Paul Weller story in mind. When it came to the recording of this, along with my rural songpoem ‘Ballade Of The Nocturnal Commune’, and the more polemical off-cut from Bankbusted, ‘Extra Time Meltdown’, the three of them connected with the verse and each others’ responses to my performance of it with scintillating flights of harmony, dissonance and poetic improvisations, way beyond my fondest hopes of co-warbled woodnotes wild”.
Damon Albarn & Graham Coxon added „We have adored the whole process of making this record.“

Ich schon. Ich werde zwar am Samstag mehrere Plattenläden heimsuchen, aber ich denke, die Chance, das Teil in Deutschland zu bekommen, ist gleich null. Leider.
Aus Liebhabergründen würde ich mir auch das Spoken-Word-Jazz-Freeform-Gegniedel mit Coxon/Albarn kaufen. Ist das auch streng limitiert? Nee, oder?
Den „stupiden Klopfer“ find ich ganz gut. Unterscheidet sich in Sachen „Songwriting“ nicht groß von den temporeicheren Klamotten auf Wake Up The Nation und Sonik Kicks (will sagen, da ist nicht viel Song), die Instrumentierung gefällt mir aber sehr.
Bei dem zweiten Stück möchte ich’s erstmal in Gänze hören, um es zu beurteilen.--
