MarBeck“Devotion“ hat Weller für den Fernsehfilm „United“ geschrieben, der am 24.4. auf BBC2 lief. Es geht um die Mannschaft von Manchester United, die 1958 mehrere Spieler bei einem Flugzeugabsturz verlor.
Die aktuelle Fassung ist aber deutlich länger. Ich würde das gerne mal „richtig“ produziert als Studioversion hören.

Eleventh studio album finds Wetter getting his Krautrockfreak on. Also: Metal Machine Music an „influence“!
Weller: „We actually finished this album in March, but, after going away, I wasn’t entirely happy. I ended up remixing a few things, chucking some songs out and writing some new stuff. So it’s gone through a few different stages.
„I’ve been listening to a lot of free form music, call it electronica or whatever. And I like Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music, so I guess there’s a certain amount of influence, but more in textural and sonic terms. There are some avantgarde and electronic elements that have been incorporated into the songs and there are a couple of soundscape pieces. There’s an experimental edge to it, but with some good tunes. It’s co-written and co-produced by Simon Dine.
„‚Sleep Of The Serene” is one of the soundscape pieces. But in the middle of those quite chaotic electronic sounds, there are also some really lovely strings which Sean O’Hagan from The High Llamas wrote and arranged. ‚By The Waters‘ is a track I wrote with the guitarist Aziz Ibrahim, which is more tranquil. It’s just voice, guitar and string arrangement.
„That Dangerous Age‘ is very funky. That’s going to be the first single I think. Noel Gallagher came down and played bass and guitar on ‚When Your Garden’s Overgrown‘ and a couple more. And Graham Coxon plays on a track called ‚Dragonfly‘. As for the rest of it, I played a lot of things myself, then my live band played on some stuff, too. Whoever came down to the studio on any given day usually ended up on the record.
„We’ve got one called ‚Around The Lake‘, which is very influenced by Neu!. In fact. Michael Rot her has done a remix of it that’s not on the album but will probably end up as a bonus track. He put some guitar parts down on it, too.
„The last track on the album is ‚Be Happy Children‘, which has two of my kids on it. My daughter sings, which is really beautiful, and my little lad Mac, who’s only six is on there, too. Leah only did two takes and is pretty nonchalant in the studio. She sounds uncannily like her mum, DC Lee. For Mac it was his first time in the studio, but he wasn’t happy with his performance, so he threw his headphones down and stormed off like a diva! He’s great on it, though. I suppose it was influenced by the passing of my own dad [John Weller died in 2009]. His message was, ‚Look, I’m always with you.‘ and it was a case of using the strength he passed down to me.“*****************************************

Oder was Briten so für NEU-Einflüsse halten. Noel redet so einen Quatsch ja auch ständig, und man hört es kein bisschen. „Around the Lake“ mag vieles sein, aber es klingt nicht nach NEU.
Metal Machine Music. Ah ja. Jetzt wird mir doch etwas mulmig Gerät er nochmal so spektakulär vom Weg ab, wie 1989? Oder heißt es nur wieder, dass es am Rande der Songs ein bisschen fiept und knirscht?
So richtig optimistisch bin ich im Bezug auf das neue Album jedenfalls nicht. Und das als WUTN-Fan.--
Nie mehr Zweite Liga!!!genau wie die vorangegangene. aber diesmal mehr aus einem guss. hat sich da ein kleines eigenes genre geschaffen. einen mix aus low, magical mystery tour und einmal ein winziger anklang an „europe endless“. wie man sich mit anfang 50 komplett neu erfindet kann er ja mal den herren costello, partridge etc. erklären. doll.

Both boys are healthy and doing well following the birth and Paul and Hannah are thrilled and over the moon.

Problem dabei ist nur, dass George-Ringo (anders als John Paul) einfach bescheiden klingt. Dazu muss ich immer wieder die Anekdote zum Besten geben wie ein Japaner (oder anderer Asiat) vor gut 10 Jahren den Vatikan besuchte und dann meinte „I always read ‚John Paul‘ – what about George and Ringo?“
Ich setze große Hoffnungen in Bowie Weller. Er wird der Weller des 21. Jahrhunderts werden. Make no mistake.

Wollte schon schreiben, das ist der beste Auftritt von Pete Townshend der letzten 10 Jahre, da sah ich Weller und es war klar, dass das älter als 10 Jahre ist. Trotzdem cool. Weller’n’Woody cheek-to-cheek doin‘ Oo la la! Awesome!
