I said, "My friend, Joe, my friend Bob would advice you , Brigitte Bardot, Anita Ekberg, Sophia Loren" Country'll growDie drei Vorab-Tracks gefallen mir: schöner traditioneller Sound, und Protestsongs finde ich auch spannend. Das Album wird angehört.
In die vorherigen Alben sollte ich vielleicht auch nochmal reinhören (ich erinnere mich dunkel, dass ich es mit A Day for the Hunter… mal versucht hatte). Und apropos Carolina Chocolate Drops: Ich kenne zwar mittlerweile Musik von Rhiannon Giddens und Dom Flemons, habe aber ehrlich gesagt noch nie ein Album ihrer früheren Band gehört. Mit welchem Album sollte man denn da einsteigen?

To Hell with PovertyVon den Drops kenne ich bislang leider auch nur Leaving Eden, das ich aber auch für sehr gut halte. Vom Sound her geht das schon auch in die Richtung von McCallas Soloalben.
Ansonsten sei an dieser Stelle auch noch mal an das im Februar erscheinende Our Native Daughters Album hingewiesen, an dem McCalla und Giddens beteiligt sind.

die carolina chocolate drops kenne ich, gefallen mir auch. die solo-sachen habe ich noch nicht gehört. money is king läuft grad und gefällt. danke für die benachrichtigung, @go1. ich würde die mccalla gerne mal live sehen, aber sie scheint dieses jahr nicht in meiner nähe zu spielen.

Was cocobey ist, weiß hier bestimmt auch bald jemand.Ich wusste es nicht, aber als ich nach der Originalversion von „Money Is King“ gesucht habe (einem Calypso von Neville Marcano), erhielt ich die Info, dass es sich bei „cocobey / cocobe“ um eine Tropenkrankheit handelt, die auf deutsch „Frambösie“ heißt. [EDIT: Nach anderen Quellen ist Lepra gemeint.]
Das erste Hören des Albums war recht kurzweilig; da bleibe ich dran.
