Erinnert mich an das Newport 1956 Album vom Duke, wo ja tatsächlich nicht alles tatsächlich live an dem Abend gespielt wurde. Tut der Klasse der Musik naturlich keinen Abbruch.

Bald in diesem Theater: - BtBs Top 100 Filme - Top 100 des BarockIch glaube, an keinem der Live-Alben Coltranes wurde nachträglich herumgebastelt … ganz sicher bin ich allerdings nicht. (Korrektur: Bass-Soli wurden weggeschnitten, aber naträglich etwas beigefügt wurde meines Wissens nicht).
Es gibt aber kein Fake-Live-Album und auch kein teilweises solches wie das von Ellington, das Du nennst (immerhin war Gonsalves‘ grosses Solo dort absolut live, aber auch um dieses rankten sich falsche Mythen … die Doppel-CD-Ausgabe mit den ganzen Live-Aufnahmen und den Studio-Sessions am Ende räumt damit auf und ist sehr, sehr gut).

Die Trackliste oben ist in Ergänzung zu „Coltrane Reference“, das Buch habe ich nicht bei mir (wäre etwas viel verlangt, es hat die Grösse und das Gewicht eines Packs mit 500 Blatt A4-Papier).

I was fortunate enough to write notes for this one. It’s the complete
session, taken directly from the original 4 session reels (in the order
recorded). The release has all the music from the session, but it does NOT
include the edited versions put together by Ed Michel for the 1971 version.I learned yesterday that Mosaic will put out a 3 LP vinyl version of the
session, probably not long after the Verve CD set is released.I have no current information about the Temple release, which got as far as
album design before it stalled. I suspect there were legal complications in
getting permissions from all those who wound up on stage that night…What
we know is listed on this page:

Ohne Musik ist alles Leben ein Irrtum.Schwer zu sagen … die Meinungen zu Ed Michels Edits sind ja auch nicht einheitlich. Für mich ist es ein klarer Fall, einfach weil „Sun Ship“ zu meinen allerliebsten Coltrane-Alben zählt und ich – ist ja hinlänglich bekannt
– den Leuten gerne bei der Arbeit über die Schulter gucke.Ein 3LP-Set von dürfte 90$ kosten (so teuer ist jedenfalls das Ella & Duke at Cote d’Azur Set, die 4LP-Sets sind 100$), das dürfte eine sehr schöne Sache sein für mich!

Ohne Musik ist alles Leben ein Irrtum.Die Paperback-Ausgabe von „Coltrane Reference“ (ich habe das hier wohl schon erwähnt?) ist übrigens abgesehen von einigen korrigierten Druckfehlern identisch mit der Hardcover-Ausgabe. Ob eine zweite Ausgabe mit all den inzwischen auf David Wilds Seite zusammengetragenen Ergänzungen und Korrekturen auch noch folgt, wurde gemäss Chris de Vito (ich fragte ihn im Juli über die Coltrane-L-Liste danach) schon gesprochen, aber da sei alles noch offen.
Jedenfalls ein tolles Buch, ich würde mir eine zweite Ausgabe davon kaufen! Die aktualisierten Angaben zu Releases sind dabei sehr nebensächlich, aber die sonstigen Ergänzungen im Buch zu haben, wäre natürlich schön!

Ohne Musik ist alles Leben ein Irrtum.Zur Paperback (und Kindle) Ausgabe von „Coltrane Reference“ hat David Wild die gerade in der Mail-Liste nochmal gestellte Frage („…will the Paperback edition of the Reference include all the revisions, corrections, and additions that are on your JCR Updates website?“) jetzt etwas anders beantwortet:
Not completely. The paperback and eBook versions are essentially reprints of the hardback version from 2007. They did however allow us to add some corrections, and eventually they were able to interpolate those into the text (rather than list them at the end). So the paperback does have some corrections. In several places where the revisions were too much to handle, however, we referred readers to the website (www.wildmusic-jazz.com) where we list everything in detail. Hopefully we’ll get to assemble a second edition in a few years…
Was das genau heisst, ist schwierig zu sagen, aber für mich klingt es so, als lohnt es sich nicht, das Buch ein zweites Mal zu kaufen, es sei denn die erhoffte zweite Ausgabe folgt in der Tat noch!
