Album #3 underway 22/3/6 – We’re pleased to announce that JY Lp#3 is finally underway. It’s being recorded and mixed in a number of studios around the uk with Phill Brown & Paul Webb. Hopefully it should be all done by mid May. Phill Brown & Paul Webb are known for their work with Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man, Talk Talk and possibly a few others….(!) Some tracks from the Lp are going to be the original demos that James made for this record.

It’ll be coming out on [COLOR=#0000ff]Domino Records in late September. Recorded mostly in North Wales, with Paul Webb [COLOR=#0000ff](Rustin Man), it’s a 10 track affair full of very good things. There’ll be a single to precede it.

„The Year Of The Leopard“ is the arresting, intimate third album from singer and wirter James Yorkston.
Though taking a year to complete, it’s a record born of spontanetiy. Discarding more elaborate compositions, Yorkston settled on the songs that had come to him unbidden whilst reading or walking, setting them in spare, acoustic arrangements and often keeping vocals from the very first time the songs were sung.
The result is a candid and heartfelt records, beautifully recorded by producer Paul Webb (aka Rustin Man) and veteran engeneer Phil Brown – the venerable team who met on Talk Talk’s „Spirit Of Eden“, where Webb was the bass player, and who are most noted for the superb Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man Album „Out Of Season“.
Yorkston has always been displaced from musical categorisation, having come up through garage punk, country rock and traditional folk music and has been a long-serving member of the famously eclectic and eccentric Fence Collective.
Though often labelled a folk artist, Yorkston is more part of a broader tradition that might might include everyone from Richard Brautigan to Karen Dalton, Jacques Brel, Can, Scott Walker, Lal Waterson and Johnny Cash – idiosyncratic creators of personal, atmospheric music and words of no fixed abode. This is the album where James rightfully stands among such stellar company.

Tatsächlich eine Coverversion ?
Die Vorfreude ist riesig, bin sehr gespannt was Paul Webb eingebracht hat.
Erscheint übrigens als Doppel 10″.--
Als ich den Titel damals gelesen habe dachte ich zuerst auch an eine Coverversion. Bei „Steady As She Goes“ handelt es sich aber um einen neuen Song von Yorkston.

Im UK erscheint das Album bereits morgen, hier erst am 20. Oktober?25 music in Hannover hatte sie schon als Import im Laden. Die Version mit der zusätzlichen acoustic tracks CD können sie allerdings nicht besorgen. Die gibt es wohl nur in England und ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Lustigerweise ist auch dem 2 x 10″ vinyl set die acoustic CD beigelegt.
