    YES – „Tales From Topographic Oceans“ (3CD+BD / 2CD+2DVD) [26.09.2016]

The towering Tales From Topographic Oceans is the fifth in a series of remixed and expanded Yes albums.

Presented in a 2 x mini vinyl replica gatefold card sleeves in a slipcase with booklet featuring new sleeve notes by Sid Smith along with rare photos and archive material, the album has been mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters and is fully approved by Yes.

The 3 CDs feature a 2016 mix of the album by Steven Wilson plus an alternative extended Dance of the Dawn (mixed from multi-track by SW) and 5 single edits. The CDs also include a complete alt. album with High The Memory (unreleased studio run-through) and Ritual (live in Zurich, April 1974) – fully restored audio from original sources.

The booklet includes elements of new interviews with Jon Anderson, Steve Howe and Alan White.

The blu-ray (Region 0, NTSC) features:

    – 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Surround (24bit/96khz) mixed from the original multi-channel recordings.

    – the new stereo album mix in DTS-HD Master Audio (24bit/96khz).

    – the original album mix in a DTS-HD Master Audio flat transfers from the original master tape source. (24bit/192khz). We believe this is the earliest master of the original mix to be issued in the digital era. (This master was also used for the original stereo on the CDs).

    – full alt. album featuring: sides 1 and 3 from the 2003 Rhino CD, previously unreleased studio run-through of Side 2 and previously unreleased live version of Side 4.

    – exclusive needle-drop of an original UK vinyl pressing transferred in 24bit/96khz audio and US branded promo pressing.

    – exclusive instrumental versions of all new mixes in DTS-HD Master Audio stereo (24bit/96khz).

    – 2016 stereo and 5.1 remix of Dance of the Dawn plus 5 single edits (stereo only) all mixed from multi-track by Steven Wilson.

Original artwork expanded, restored and approved by Roger Dean.

„I worked on and off for about 3 years on this new mix in my quest to do it justice. I hope it will satisfy the people who agree with me that it may just be Yes’s pre-eminent masterpiece.“ Steven Wilson

    ******

On September 26, Steven Wilson’s remix of Tales From Topographic Oceans will be made available to fans. And there’s a lot to enjoy in this edition, which will be made available as a 3CD/1BD-Audio (Blu-ray) set, and a 2CD/2DVD-Audio set.

The general outline of inclusion will be richer in the Blu-ray Audio set than the DVD-Audio sets. But otherwise, the main attractions and some bonuses including hi-rez versions of Stereo and 5.1 Surround, and several remixed 5.1 inclusions will be the same in both. Here’s what’s in the both packages:

    • The SW mix of the original 2-disc album by Yes
    • An unedited and extended version of “Dance Of The Dawn”
    • Five new single edits that bring greater clarity to unique parts within the larger pieces.
    • 5.1 Surround Mixes in both PCM and DTS HD, both at 96kHz att 24 bits.
    • A 24-bit/96kHz Stereo mix
    • An hi-rez (24-bit/96kHz) flat transfer of the original mix of the album (possibly the earliest master of the original mix in digital).

What will separate the BD-Audio from the two DVD-Audio discs will be the following:

    • The BD-Audio will include the previously mentioned “Dance Of The Dawn” track in full blown 5.1 along with the five singles extractions.
    • The BD-Audio will include instrumental-only mixes of the album like those found on previous SW YES remixes.
    • The BD-Audio will add a FULL alternate album that includes sides one and three from the 2003 remaster of the album, as well as a previously unreleased run-through of side two, and a previously unreleased live set of side four.
    • Full needle-drops of the original UK vinyl release, and the US promo pressing of the album.
    • Expanded and restored original Roger Dean art for the album.
    • The BD-Audio set with the extra CD will contain a complete alternate version of Tales From Topographic Oceans in live settings and studio run-throughs. The live “Ritual” (Zurich, 1974), and the studio run-through of “High The Memory” are both previously unreleased.

DAVID BOWIE – Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976)

Coming on September 23 in CD, vinyl and digital download editions, David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976) will contain the following albums:

    • Diamond Dogs (Remastered) 1-CD
    • David Live (Original Mix) (Remastered) 2-CD
    • David Live (2005 Mix) (Remastered) 2-CD
    • The Gouster (Previously Unreleased as an album) 1-CD
    • Young Americans (Remastered) 1-CD
    • Station to Station (Remastered) 1-CD
    • Station to Station (Harry Maslin 2010 Mix) 1-CD
    • Live Nassau Coliseum ’76 2-CD
    • Re:Call 2 (Single Versions and non-album b-sides) 1-CD

These albums are from what is considered Bowie’s “American” period.  As with last year’s Five Years box set, several of the albums are presented in multiple mixes.  The David Live 2005 Mix is from the expanded reissue of that album from that year and the remix of Station to Station as well as the Live Nassau Coliseum ’76 release are from the Super Deluxe Station to Station from 2010.  (The remix was only available on the DVD-Audio in that Super Deluxe edition while the Nassau concert was available also in the 3-CD edition.)

The Re:Call bonus disc also follows the format from the extra disc in the previous box.  It promises some new-to-CD tracks such as the original single mix of “Rebel Rebel,” the Australian single edit of “Diamond Dogs” and the single edit of the live version of “Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me.”

The design of Who Can I Be Now? also keeps up the tradition of Five Years.  Each album in the CD set will be housed in a mini-vinyl replica LP sleeve and the CDs themselves will be gold instead of the traditional silver.  The 128-page booklet (84 pages in the vinyl edition) will contain “rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Eric Stephen Jacobs, Tom Kelley, Geoff MacCormack, Terry O’Neill, Steve Schapiro, and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers Tony Visconti and Harry Maslin.”  A replica of a handwritten note from Bowie concerning the running order of The Gouster will also be included.  The vinyl edition will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

Please also note that there are several versions of the digital editions available.  There are two hi-res editions:  192kHz/24 bit and 96kHz/24 bit.  Neither of these editions will contain the alternate mix versions of David Live or Station to Station or the Nassau concert or Re:Call album.  The regular digital download edition contains all of the audio content and is apparently also available in a Mastered for iTunes edition (although the Nassau concert and Re:Call album will contain the same mastering in both editions).

GRAHAM PARKER – „These Dreams Will Never Sleep: Best Of“ (Ltd.Edt., 6CD+DVD)

These Dreams Will Never Sleep: The Best Of Graham Parker 1976-2015 includes 90 tracks across six CDs, a compilation live DVD, a 36-page hardcover book featuring a new interview with Parker and an overview written by Holly A. Hughes, plus a poster and three postcards.

Following their critically-acclaimed debut album Howlin’ Wind, Graham Parker & The Rumour enjoyed some chart success in the late Seventies and early Eighties, peaking with their last album before Parker branched out on his own – The Up Escalator (1980, which, tellingly, was credited only to Parker on the cover) reached number 11 in the UK and tip-toed into the Top 40 Stateside. The previous album, Squeezing Out Sparks (1979) charted on both sides of the pond), is often held up as Parker’s finest, gaining a slot at number 335 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list. While his albums since have not had such commercial clout, Parker has enjoyed a long and productive solo career, and he reunited with The Rumour to make Three Chords Good, the first of two new albums together, in 2012.

The first three CDs in this set are anthology discs consisting mainly of studio recordings, plus four solo acoustic demos and four live performances with The Rumour. This is followed a disc of live BBC recordings – at Hammersmith Odeon, 1979, plus a handful of songs for the BBC Sight And Sound in Concert series in 1977 – and, for the first time, a recording Parker’s last-ever gig with The Rumour (and horn section) at London’s Forum which is spread across two CDs.

    CD 1 – 1976 – 1978

    • Graham Parker – I Got My Soul (Acoustic Demo)
    • Graham Parker – That’s When You Know (Acoustic Demo)
    • Graham Parker – Sunny Side Down (Acoustic Demo)
    • Graham Parker – The Raid (Acoustic Demo)
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Between You And Me
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Don’t Ask Me Questions
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Howlin’ Wind
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Nothin’s Gonna Pull Us Apart
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Soul Shoes (Single Version)
    • Graham Parker & The Rumour – Pourin’ It All Out

JIMI HENDRIX – “Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show”

On December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles took New York’s Fillmore East by storm with four exhilarating, adventurous performances fusing R&B, soul and hard rock with an improvisatory sensibility.  On September 30, Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix will release the first of the Band of Gypsys’ four sets for the very first time as Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69.  Newly mixed from the original one-inch 8-track master tapes by Eddie Kramer, this landmark release, produced by Janie Hendrix, John McDermott and Kramer, will arrive on CD, 180-gram vinyl, SACD and DD.

The funk-fuelled stylings of Hendrix, Cox and Miles were first released by Capitol Records on March 25, 1970 as Band Of Gypsys, which featured six songs from the two January 1, 1970 concerts including the powerful “Machine Gun.”  Tragically, it would be the final album Jimi Hendrix personally authorized for release before his untimely death that September.  The 1999 2-CD compilation release Live at the Fillmore East drew on all four gigs including three tracks from the first show (“Hear My Train A Comin’,” Izabella,” “Changes”).  Machine Gun offers a new look at these seminal concerts by presenting one in full for the first time.

The seventy-five minute opening performance chronicled here introduced a “new” Jimi Hendrix experience.  After all, none of the eleven songs in the setlist had appeared on an Experience album.  Staples like “Purple Haze” and “All Along the Watchtower” were notably left off in favor of songs such as “Power of Soul” and “Hear My Train A Comin.’”  Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 features blazing takes of “Earth Blues,” “Ezy Ryder,” “Stepping Stone,” “Burning Desire,” and “Machine Gun”–none of which have ever before been issued on compact disc.   Machine Gun also features Miles’ standout performances of “Changes” and the Jerry Ragovoy/Garry Sherman-penned “Stop,” a hit R&B single for vocalist Howard Tate.  Elmore James’ classic “Bleeding Heart” is the set’s only other cover.

Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 presents the complete, legendary rock and soul revue in its original sequence, and includes new liner notes by David Fricke.  This piece of Hendrix history is due in multiple formats on September 30 from Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix!

    TrackList:

    1. Power Of Soul
    2. Lover Man
    3. Hear My Train A Comin’
    4. Changes
    5. Izabella
    6. Machine Gun
    7. Stop
    8. Ezy Ryder
    9. Bleeding Heart
    10. Earth Blues
    11. Burning Desire
