The Beach Boys, Smile Sessions, compiled with the full participation of original Beach Boys Al Jardine, Mike Love, and Brian Wilson, Capitol/EMI has, for the first time, collected and compiled the band’s legendary 1966-’67 sessions for the never-completed SMiLE album.„In several sessions between the summer of 1966 and early 1967, The Beach Boys recorded a bounty of songs and drafts for an album, SMiLE, that was intended to follow the band’s 1966 album, Pet Sounds.
The master tapes were ultimately shelved, and The Beach Boys‘ SMiLE has never been released. Drawn from the original masters, SMiLE Sessions presents an in-depth overview of The Beach Boys‘ recording sessions for the enigmatic album, which has achieved legendary, mythical status for music fans around the world. The SMiLE Sessions‘ configurations include an assembled collection of core session tracks, while the box set delves much deeper into the sessions, adding early song drafts, alternate takes, instrumental and vocals-only mixes, and studio chatter.
SMiLE Sessions invites the listener into the studio to experience the album’s creation, with producer, singer and bassist Brian Wilson’s vision leading the way as he guides his fellow Beach Boys, singer Mike Love, drummer Dennis Wilson, lead guitarist Carl Wilson, rhythm guitarist Al Jardine, and newest member Bruce Johnston (who’d replaced Brian Wilson in the touring group during 1965), through the legendary sessions.
The Artwork for all of the SMiLE Sessions‘ configurations has been created with and inspired by Beat-Pop artist Frank Holmes‘ original 1967 LP sleeve art and booklet designs intended for the SMiLE album. With its three-dimensional shadowbox lid, The SMiLE Sessions box set offers a whimsical peek inside the storied SMiLE Shop.‘

Include me out!The history of the ever mighty Rush goes back to 1968 when the group first got together, but it was not until 1974 that the band proper with NealPeart joining Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson to make for the line-up we have known and loved ever since came to the fore.Peart joined just two weeks before Rushs first US tour and it was during this American jaunt that the guys played the infamous Agora Ballroom,Cleveland – a venue at which the group would go onto play numerous more shows during their formative years. At their 1974 booking however, radio station WMMS radio was on hand to broadcast the whole event across the airwaves and thus make this particular gig a somewhat notoriousevent as well as being Rushs very first radio broadcast
• The set played by the group that hot August evening in Americas dark industrial underbelly, includes songs from their debut album, Rush, and features two early versions of cuts from their sophomore record, Fly by Night
• The show also contained a cover of Larry Williams Bad Boy a 1950s rocker and no mistake – plus incredibly, two excellent tracks thathave never been released on any previous Rush release; the super-rare Fancy Dancer and Garden Road, both composed in their veryearliest incarnation before Neal Peart was on board
• The package is completed by three bonus tracks from their second US broadcast, back at the ABC a year later, and again courtesy oftheir by then long time champions, WMMR Cleveland
• All three songs from the 75 set originated on Fly By Night
• This rare recording is now available legitimately for the first time and with de-luxe packaging, designed with the collector in mind, willprove a must have item for Rushs enormous army of fans still fighting the cause well over 40 years into a quite marvellous career

Taken from: http://theseconddisc.com/2011/09/15/lets-go-edsel-revs-up-cars-reissues/#more-8927
Demon Music Group/Edsel has unveiled plans for expanded reissues of the complete Elektra discography for New Wave legends The Cars. From the opening chords of ¡°Good Times Roll¡± off the Boston quintet¡¯s self-titled debut in 1978, The Cars ¨C singer/guitarist Ric Ocasek, singer/bassist Benjamin Orr, lead guitarist Elliott Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson ¨C were something special, becoming one of the primary bands in America to fuse traditional rock with the rising trends of synth-based pop. Add the band¡¯s willingness to contribute to the rising crop of videos on MTV, and it¡¯s no surprise that the group moved millions of copies of their albums through their 1987 breakup and beyond. And while Orr died of cancer in 2000, the band recently reunited (with Ocasek and Robinson, who sat out The New Cars project with Todd Rundgren) and released the rather good Move Like This earlier this spring.
Rhino released a fair amount of catalogue material in the 1990s to commemorate The Cars, from 1995¡äs hits/rarities set Just What I Needed: The Anthology to 1999 as deluxe edition of the band’s first album. But these sets represent nearly the full gamut of The Cars.
In traditional Edsel form, two albums will be packed into one set, and all will feature bonus material. The first set, combining The Cars and 1979¡äs Candy-O, is actually three discs, containing both albums and relevant bonus cuts with a DVD featuring the band’s performances on U.K. rock specials The Old Grey Whistle Test and Rock Goes to College. (On the latter program, the final two encore tracks are being unearthed and released for the first time!) The other two sets combine Panorama (1980) and Shake It Up (1981) with relevant B-sides and outtakes, and Heartbeat City (1984) and Door to Door (1987) with dance remixes and demos.
Is everything here? Shockingly, no. While every unreleased track from Just What I Needed is here, and the dance mixes to ¡°Hello Again¡± are CD debuts, Edsel misses two rather glaring tracks: ¡°Tonight She Comes,¡± and a remix of ¡°I¡¯m Not the One,¡± the singles from the band¡¯s 1985 Greatest Hits package. But the amount of rare and unreleased video material is certainly enough to make you think these sets over.
Edsel doesn’t seem to have a release date in their news release, but full details and order links are below.

Etwas feines von RHINOHANDMADE (was natürlich gleichzeitig auch einen hohen Preis bedeutet  – hier 39.98 USD + p&p).
Iron Butterfly made its New York City debut at the Fillmore East in the spring of 1968, recording all four shows from April 26 and 27. The tapes reveal the Los Angeles quartet – singer/organist Doug Ingle, bassist Lee Dorman, guitarist Erik Brann (just 17 at the time) and drummer Ron Bushy – on the verge of its defining success, mixing tracks from its first album HEAVY, with songs that would appear two months later on the band’s multi-platinum magnum opus, IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA. Rhino Handmade unearths Iron Butterfly’s ascension to the pantheon of heavy rock with FILLMORE EAST 1968, a double disc set of previously unreleased performances.
Meticulously restored from the original 1/2″ four-track recorder tapes run at 15 ips, the well-defined sound, according to veteran music journalist and liner note author David Fricke, „is the sound of hard-rock immortality in the making.“ For the performances, Iron Butterfly drew material primarily from the just-released HEAVY, playing the tough yet nimble “Unconscious Power” in the early show both nights, and closing all four sets with the potent one-two punch of “So-Lo” and “Iron Butterfly Theme.” They also used the Fillmore concerts to showcase three songs from what would become Iron Butterfly’s second album, including “Are You Happy,” “My Mirage” and its title track, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” which the group deployed to great effect in the second set both nights.
As Fricke writes: “… these recordings, from that spring weekend in 1968, catch Iron Butterfly – and “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” – at a transformative point and ferocious pitch: a great acid-garage band with sharp pop instincts, hardened and tightened by long service on the Sunset Strip, about to establish a lasting definition of heavy rock.”

Kommt jetzt demnächst doch endlich:
Taken from: http://theseconddisc.com/2011/09/20/the-piano-man-boxed-billy-joel-celebrated-with-complete-albums-collection-and-piano-man-legacy-edition/#more-9096
The music and lyrics of Billy Joel run deep in the fabric of American popular song: “Sing us a song, you’re the piano man.” “I’m in a New York state of mind.” Joel was that rare singer/songwriter whose career took off in the 1970s, with one foot rooted in the Tin Pan Alley tradition and another squarely in rock-and-roll, who continued to soar in the 1980s with indelible videos for the MTV era, among them “Uptown Girl” opposite his soon-to-be-wife Christie Brinkley. He had proven his cross-generational appeal with a series of hit albums and indelible singles. But a few years later, Joel did something truly rare. He stepped back from the spotlight after 1993’s River of Dreams, vowing that the best-selling album would be his swan song to pop/rock songwriting. Eighteen years later and much to dismay of his fans, Joel has kept true to his word. He’s only turned out the occasional song (“Christmas in Fallujah,” performed by Cass Dillon, and “All My Life,” written for his now-ex-wife Katie Lee, both from 2007) and one album of classical piano compositions, 2001’s Fantasies and Delusions, performed by Richard Joo. Yet Joel’s music remains in the spotlight. Joel has continued a lucrative live career (including high-profile shows closing the New York Mets’ original home, Shea Stadium!), seen his songs feted in Twyla Tharp’s hit 2002 Broadway musical Movin’ Out, and remained a sort of musical godfather to younger piano-pounding rockers such as Ben Folds (recently interviewed by The Second Disc here). Unfortunately Joel recently scrapped plans for a memoir which he had reportedly completed, preferring to let his remarkable catalogue of music speak for itself.
To commemorate Joel’s fortieth anniversary as a recording artist, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings today made available for pre-order two deluxe releases: The Complete Albums Collection (joining similar releases for Tony Bennett, Miles Davis and a host of others) and a 2-CD Legacy Edition of Joel’s 1973 major label breakthrough, Piano Man.

Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan, Metallica Join Neil Young For „Bridge School Concerts“ CD/DVD
Who but Neil Young could have brought The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Ben Harper, Eddie Vedder, Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, and Los Lonely Boys together on the same stage? Though Young is an easy target for what can appear as a capricious attitude towards his back catalogue ¨C announcing, then delaying or cancelling titles with alarming frequency ¨C one aspect of the man¡¯s great legacy cannot be in dispute, and that is his philanthropy. Since 1986, Young and his wife Pegi have offered annual support for The Bridge School, an organization dedicated to the education of children with severe speech and physical impairments. That was the year Mr. and Mrs. Young created The Bridge School Benefit Concert.
The very first line-up included Young with his friends Crosby, Stills and Nash, Nils Lofgren, Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, Tom Petty and Robin Williams; the 2004 concert offered the diverse group including Bennett and McCartney. This year¡¯s shows, on October 22 and 23, will continue the generally all-acoustic ethos, and will offer faces both old and new. Bennett and Vedder are to join Diana Krall, Dave Matthews, Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Los Invisibles featuring Carlos Santana, Beck, Jenny Lewis, and Mumford and Sons.
Held yearly at Mountain View, California¡¯s Shoreline Amphitheatre, The Bridge School Benefit Concerts have welcomed artists including David Bowie, Willie Nelson, Sarah McLachlan, Elton John, Leon Russell, Sheryl Crow, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Brian Wilson, The Who, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and Bob Dylan. All of those names (and many more!) appear on The Bridge School Concerts: 25th Anniversary Edition, due on October 24 from Reprise Records in 2-CD and 3-DVD formats. There has been one prior Bridge School CD (1997¡äs The Bridge School Concerts Vol. 1) and a number of digital-only offerings, but these sets mark the most comprehensive package of music from the Bridge School¡¯s archives.
Though there is some overlap among the CD and DVD releases (which will be sold separately), each features a unique selection of music. Contributions from David Bowie, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Simon and Garfunkel, Tom Waits and Billy Idol only appear on the DVD set. No Doubt, Jack Johnson, Sonic Youth, Willie Nelson, Tony Bennett, Nils Lofgren, Norah Jones and Jonathan Richman are among those artists only appearing on CD. Both formats include tracks from Elton John and Leon Russell (¡°My Dream Come True¡±), Bruce Springsteen (¡°Born in the USA¡±), Brian Wilson (¡°Surfin¡¯ USA¡±), Fleet Foxes (¡°Blue Ridge Mountains¡±), Metallica (¡°Disposable Heroes¡±), The Who (¡°Won¡¯t Get Fooled Again¡±) and Paul McCartney (¡°Get Back¡±). Neil Young himself is represented on CD with ¡°Country Feedback¡± with R.E.M. and ¡°Love and Only Love¡± with Crazy Horse. ¡°Country Feedback¡± reappears on the DVD, along with a Young solo performance of ¡°Crime in the City.¡±
Whereas the first two DVDs in the set are exclusively devoted to performance footage, the third disc contains bonus material: two documentaries, Backstage at the Bridge School Benefit and The Bridge School Story, along with artist and student interviews.
Hit the jump to watch the video trailer, as well as for the complete track listing and pre-order links! The Bridge School Concerts: 25th Anniversary Edition hits stores on October 24 from Reprise, and it¡¯s important to note that ¡°all profits from this release go directly to The Bridge School.¡± The label has set up an official site for the project here: http://bridgeschool.warnerreprise.com/
