CD 3
The Early Cassettes.A selection from the Triffids’ first, second, third and fourth cassettes. This selection exposes the listener to the (admittedly crude) bonfire of creativity that was The Triffids of 1978 and 1979. The original core of David McComb, Alsy Madonald and Phil Kakulas could barely play their instruments but the songs they recorded on a Revox A77 display a powerfully intelligent brand of songwriting in its infancy. Each cassette release shows a quantum leap in sophistication such that tape 4 contains a song, Little Voices, that became the basis one of The Triffids better known songs, My Baby Thinks She’s A Train

Grandson of Dungeon Tape. Dungeon Tape and Son of Dungeon Tape – A SelectionCD 6
Live to air on 3PBS from the Regal Room at The Prince Of Wales Hotel, St Kilda – 16/4/84
The Triffids were still six months and 23 shows away from leaving their Australian shores…This show presents a very good band that was striving to become a great band. You can tell that Dave was taking the chance to be recorded for free very seriously as he makes the decision to play songs they don’t normally play and some new ones that are still being thrashed out on stage and in the rehearsal room. You can almost smell the ambition. Most bands would be quite happy to sound as good as this but The Triffids weren’t most bands. By the time they got to London quite a few of the songs played on 3PBS had been ditched and some had been ramped up, re-written and re-arranged to become truly great songs.
CD 7
Live At the London School Of Economics – 13/10/84CD 8
Live At Melbourne University – 27/03/88This show presents The Triffids in an epic, conversational show. From Dave’s opening words you can tell that the band and audience are going to have a ball tonight. Before the tensions and restlessness of The Black Swan era had set in this is the sound of a band playing so well they can sit back, relax and admire their own nifty footwork while sharing a joke at the same time.

The discovery of this crystal-clear recording from 1971, then, is cause for rejoicing for Poco fans; it was actually recorded a year later than ‚Deliverin“ was, with the high-flying line-up of Richie Furay,Timothy B. Schmit, George Grantham, Rusty Young and (making his first live appearance with the band) Paul Cotton, and boasts a set list that departs significantly from the one on the previous live album.

03.05.2010 / Universal / 4CD Box Set
Hinweis: nicht zu verwechseln mit der „DeLuxe-Edition“ !!!
A 4CD Box-set that gathers together all of the band’s remaining unreleased recordings, which are being officially released for the first time on one comprehensive set that captures the band’s myriad attempts to capture the feeling that Lee Maver attempted to harness in their sound.
Disc One collects the handful of superb singles the band released, including their fresh, spirited debut Way Out (1987), an unreleased version of the glorious Timeless Melody (1989), and of course There She Goes (1988/19990), the band’s one real hit and a much-covered classic that has sound-tracked the sweet moments to countless Hollywood movies, as well as other well loved favourites.
Disc Two features the best of the many out-takes the band produced as they worked through one highly respected producer after another such as John Porter (The Smiths, Billy Bragg), John Leckie (The Stone Roses, Radiohead) Mike Hedges (The Cure, Siouxsie And The Banshees), and Steve Lillywhite (Simple Minds and U2) as well as sessions by Bob Andrews, Dave Allen and Jeremy Allom.
Discs Three and Four give evidence of what a great live band The La’s were and possibly are: the force that comes through in the capturing of two never heard before live concerts, at London’s Town And Country Club in 1989 and at The Marquee in 1991, which help to explain why a band that only released one album over 20 years ago continues to fascinate.
This definitive set is presented in a beautifully packaged hardback box with a 60 page booklet. The striking artwork has been designed by the band’s original designer, Simon Ryan. Also included is a detailed essay by acclaimed journalist and author Will Hodgkinson as well as never seen before photos of the band by Paul Cox.

24.05.2010 / EMI / 6CD-Box
Formed from the aftermath of Terraplane in 1989, hard rockers Thunder went on to amass 17 Top 40 singles and 2 Top 5 albums in the UK. The Thunder release campaign now continues with the ‘At The BBC (1990-1995)’, a 6CD treasure-trove of live and session recordings (with every one previously unreleased and now fully remastered) taken from the peak of their career.
Disc one kicks of the box on 9th December 1990 with the final night’s set of a three-show run at London’s Hammersmith Odeon, with the band still basking in the fantastic response to their debut album, ‘Backstreet Symphony’. Included are three of their Top 40 hits from the same album; ‘Back Street Symphony’, ‘She’s So Fine’ and ‘Love Walked In’. The second disc of the set completes the same Hammersmith show with the tracks ‘Until My Dying Day’ and the Top 40 hit ‘Dirty Love’, before moving across to Wembley Arena for Thunder’s set at the “Great British Music Weekend”, an offshoot of the Brit Awards, headlined by Ozzy Osbourne. The third disc chronicles Thunder’s debut appearance at Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington on 22nd August 1992 where they shared the stage with headliners Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison and the Quireboys. This first Donington show is regarded as among the most important shows the band ever performed, and certainly contributed to their support slot for Def Leppard two years later at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield on 6th June 1993 where Thunder performed a ‘greatest hits’ set in front of 50,000 fans, all of which is captured here on disc four. The fifth (and final live) disc in the ‘At The BBC’ box covers the band’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire show on 8th December 1994, which previewed their third album (a UK No 5) ‘Behind Closed Doors’ and subsequently showcased new compositions such as ‘River Of Pain’, ‘Moth To The Flame’ and ‘Ball And Chain’. Completing the set, disc six collects together four radio sessions made for the BBC, all showing a rarer, acoustic, side to Thunder. Included here are a two-song visit to Tommy Vance’s Friday Rock Show in the summer of 1992, a Nicky Campbell session which winds up a four-song routine with a Thunder-ised take on Elvis Presley’s ‘All Shook Up’, a Johnny Walker session from February of 1993 and lastly a one-off performance for Kevin Greening in April of 1995 which includes a barroom-friendly rendition of the Dave Edmunds-popularised ‘I Hear You Knocking’, complete with boogie-woogie piano solo from Ben Matthews.
With 61 previously unreleased tracks stretching across 6 discs, all lovingly remastered from the original tapes, with liner notes from Classic Rock and Metal Hammer’s Dave ling, all packaged in a deluxe clamshell box, ‘At The BBC (1990-1995)’ will be a must-have for the large and dedicated Thunder fanbase.
