Die erste Scheibe dieser 1980er Allstar Partie, welche den Neoklassizismus nicht zur Kunstform erhebt und mir auch heute noch durch ihr unprätentiöses Spiel zu gefallen vermag ….. warum Charnett Moffet nie die Versprechen dieser Zeit einlöste, bleibt mir unverständlich ….

Discogs beschreibt es als „Big Band, Contemporary Jazz, Prog Rock“ – und irgendwie passt das. Manchmal schräg, manchmal Ellington – und Kenny Wheeler ist auch mit dabei. Große Empfehlung.

Bei mir noch eine Dosis Kenton mehr … frühe Aufnahmen von August/September 1941 und 1944 (April bis Dezember wohl, , wenn die Liner Notes stimmen (es gibt zuviele solcher Kenton-Sessions, die dokumentiert sind, als dass sich da leicht ein Abgleich machen liesse) – 1944 heisst denn auch, dass Anita O’Day dabei ist (auf sechs Stücken), und das war genau die Phase, in der ein gerade 17 gewordener Junge namens Stan Getz in der Band sass – zu hören ist er nur in einem Solo sowie einmal im Dialog mit dem anderen Tenorsaxophonisten, der sonst alle Soli spielt, Emmett Carls.
