Nach einer halben Stunde drehen im Leeren liess Amazon mich die Files gestern doch noch runterladen … kam bis zum ersten Stück mit Wilen, „Billie’s Bounce“, und bin sehr angetan! Im zweiten, das hörte ich noch, spielt Wilen dann Sopransax. Für Wilen war das glaub ich bereits keine so gute Zeit mehr bzw. das Schwanzende seiner ersten tollen Jahre – auf jeden Fall schön, da noch etwas mehr zu haben, bin gespannt auf die zweite Hälfte des Albums (mit drei weiteren Stücken mit ihm).

Paul Desmond – Pure Desmond
Eine von Paul Desmonds Aufnahmen für CTI Mitte der 70er. Für die damalige Zeit eigentlich altmodisch, kaum auf Fusion-Zeitgeist getrimmt, aber sehr schön. Die CD-Version enthält auch Desmonds wunderbare Aufnahme von A. C. Jobims Wave, die unerklärlich nicht auf der Original-LP enthalten war, oder? Auch Bossa Nova war damals nicht mehr der letzte Schrei. Aber aus heutiger Perspektive ist das egal. Und wie lautet der Titel eines Stücks auf Pure Desmond? I’m Old Fashioned.

Gröna Lund scheint so etwas wie die schwedische Version von Asbury Park oder Coney Island zu sein. Und wie ist die Musik?--

Hab das Booklet noch nicht gelesen, aber Ellington spielte da über mehrere Tage zum Tanz auf – anscheinend das allererste Mal, dass er dies in Europa tat (und ich vermute auch das letzte Mal), während das in den USA damals noch recht üblich war (so gibt es in der „Private Collection“ bei Saga Jazz zwei ganze CDs, die die Band in „raunchy“ Stimmung beim Spiel zum Tanz auf einer Air Base dokumentieren).

RYOKO ONO & ROGIER SMAL – Wood Moon
Für mich eine der interessantesten Entdeckungen des vergangenen Jahres und eine der fulminantesten Saxophon-Schlagzeug-Duoaufnahme in jüngster Zeit. Mir gefällt Wood Moon auch deutlich besser als das, was ich von Sax Ruins bisher kenne.
