Bill Browning and His Echo Valley Boys – Dark Hollow

Die Originalversion von 1958, damals auf dem Island Label aus Cleveland/Ohio erschienen. Der Song wurde im Laufe der Jahre von verschiedenen Künstlern aufgenommen, darunter Luke Gordon, Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys, The Grateful Dead, Bill Monroe, David Bromberg Band und The Seldom Scene.

Drunk & Crazy, This is Bare Country, Streets of Baltimore, Sleeper wherever I fall, Down & Dirty, Hard Time Hungrys und Legends, Lullabies & Lies gebe ich allen mindestens ****. Ihm fehlt etwas die wirkliche dreckige Roadhouse-Atmosphäre anderer großer Selbstmitleider, dafür höre ich gerne den Spaß aus seiner Stimme heraus, den er bei den Aufnahmen scheinbar immer hatte.

Tolles Coveralbum und gelungenes Tribute an Slim. Crockett ist für mich eine DER Neuentdeckungen der letzten Jahre.
