Los Angeles: Großartig!
Cosmogramma: Für mich bislang unverdaulich in seinem hyperaktivem Mix übereinander hineinstürzender unterschiedlicher Zutaten.

This gift can bring healing—but it can also attract demons.” (From the movie Sinners by Ryan Coogler)Ich tauche gerade erst in dieses Universum ein, nachdem ich (via Kamasi Washington und Kendrick Lamar) vor ein paar Wochen „You’re Dead!“ kaufte und ziemlich begeistert war. Die Begeisterung wächst gerade minütlich, „Cosmogramma“ ist in seiner Dichte für mich allerdings gerade das faszinierendste der vier Alben, die hier inzwischen herumliegen (auf welchem anderen Elektro-Album findet man ein Fats Waller-Zitat?) … die Deutung von „Until the Quiet Comes Along“ als Traum-Album leuchtet mir ein, das Ding ist im Vergleich entschlackt und ziemlich linear, es zieht die Stimmung durch und bleibt irgendwie in der Schwebe. Aber ich brauche noch einige Zeit, um das in Ruhe zu verdauen. Die vier Alben sind ziemlich unterschiedlich und ich bin noch lange nicht an dem Punkt, an dem ich sie etwa ranken könnte (muss ich ja zum Glück auch nicht ;-)).

Ich kenne nur Los Angeles, Cosmogramma und die beiden EPs Reset (der Wahnsinn!)und Pattern + Grid World. Die älteren Sachen (LA und Reset) gefallen mir deutlich besser, da mich die Informationsdichte von Cosmo und Pattern schlicht überfordert. Aber das sind die Einschätzungen offenbar unterschiedlich. Vorgarten steht ja sehr auf Flying Lotus.

In „Dance of the Pseudo Nymph“ gibt es den „Jitterbug Waltz“ … denke nicht, dass das ein Zufall ist.
Von den EPs kenne ich gar nichts bisher, Dir möchte ich dann „Until the Quiet Comes“ nahelegen, das dürfte eher wieder passen vermute ich, nimm mal ein Ohr voll davon, wenn Du kannst! Samples oder einzelne sind allerdings etwas schwierig finde ich, man muss die Dinger wohl komplett durchhören, auch der Nahezu-Overkill von „Cosmogramma“ ist ja wie aus einem Guss. So gesehen ist es auch gut, dass die Alben kurz sind (zwischen 40 und 50 Minuten), viel mehr davon möchte man aufs Mal wohl kaum hören (obwohl ich mir ja gestern gleich zwei am Stück gab, hatte zunächst sogar überlegt, „Cosmogramma“ nochmal zu hören, beschränkte mich dann aber auf die Wiederholung des Schlusses vom Stück mit der Waller-Referenz an).
Ich stiess gestern dann noch auf den schönen Thread hier (leider durch die – seltsamerweise nur teilweise – Abwesenheit der Umlaute verunstaltet), der mir bisher entgangen ist:

Aber da bleibe ich vorläufig an der Seitenlinie, es gibt da schlicht zuviel Musik, die mich zuwenig interessiert bzw. die ich nur sehr punktuell kenne.--

Etwas geschwurbelt formuliert aber nicht unbedingt falsch. Und Andrew Peklers NOCTURNES finde ich nach wie vor großartig und dieses Album könnte auch Dir zusagen. Zufällig gestern abend mal wieder gehört.Hier ein sehr gutes Review:
„As any music fan knows, the way you remember music can be significantly different from the way it actually sounds. Often, songs that rock in your mind don’t rock so hard on record, and all too often things sound slower than you recall upon playback. Andrew Pekler makes music that sounds the way someone only vaguely familiar with the late-’60s/early-’70s work of Miles Davis might remember the ambient cool jazz sound when not intimately familiar with the extensive and complex elements. He achieves this, of course, by sampling jazz records from that era, a technique he first utilized on 2002’s Station to Station. But while the extended jams of his first album evolved slowly into their own devices, most of the shorter cuts on Nocturnes, False Dawns & Breakdowns act more like fleeting memories, a more suitable construct for music that plays with recall like this. Only „False Dawn“ makes readily apparent the digital realm in which Pekler functions, adding hiss and synth tones to the mix, but from the looping vibe of „Stardusting“ to the fully played-through drums of „Streetworm“ Pekler’s notion of how vintage jazz plays in our heads is often times more accurate than the real thing.“Aber das geht etwas off topic.
