Bei diesem Jahrzehnt mache ich ausnahmsweise mal mit. Meine Liste ist biographisch: Sie enthält Aufnahmen, die ich in den 90er Jahren oft gehört und sehr gemocht habe. Ich habe alles weggelassen, was ich erst später entdeckt habe; die Auswahl ist deshalb nicht identisch mit dem, was ich aus heutiger Sicht für das beste dieser Jahre halte – sie zeigt die 90er so, wie ich sie erlebt habe. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der ersten Hälfte des Jahrzehnts; die zweite ist etwas an mir vorbeigegangen. Britpop habe ich schon nicht mehr mitgemacht; was ich davon auf MTV gesehen und gehört habe, fand ich weder aufregend noch ansprechend. Als ich 1995 für zwei Wochen in London war, bin ich tatsächlich gefragt worden, ob man in Deutschland Blur oder Oasis bevorzugt; meine Antwort war, dass dort nur die wenigsten etwas von diesen Bands gehört hätten. Ich kannte daheim niemanden, der sich für Blur oder Oasis interessierte. Von 1996 bis 1998 habe ich nur wenige aktuelle Platten gehört – und auch insgesamt viel weniger Musik als vorher oder nachher. In diesen Jahren habe ich sehr viel verpasst – wobei mir in den frühen 90ern aber auch schon viel entgangen ist. Ich habe es bis heute nicht geschafft, alles aufzuholen.
