Bei Uncle Tupelo „Anodyne“ vor „March 16-20, 1992“, „No Depression“ überhaupt nicht gelistet.
The Avett Brothers auf Platz 6. Na ja.
Waxahatchee auf Platz 18. Und dann auch noch mit „Saint Cloud“ und nicht mit „American Weekend“ oder „Cerulean Salt“.
Kacey Musgraves auf Platz 20 vor diversen Hochkarätern?
Die Silver Jews erst auf Platz 36?
16 Horsepower erst auf Platz 39?
Bonnie „Prince“ Billy – wenn man ihn denn überhaupt in Alt.Country einordnen will – erst auf Platz 43?
Victoria Williams – eine für mich genredefinierende Künstlerin – nur auf Platz 51?
Und Dave Alvin und Green on Red – die ich beide eher nicht bei Alt.Country verorten würde – auf den Plätzen 64 und 68 unter ferner liefen?--

Robbie Fulks Country Love Songs ist für mich ein 5-Sterner, aber Alt Country? Eher Neo-Trad Country, genauso wie Dwight Yoakam zB. Sturgill Simpson hat sein Werk ja schon im Titel als Country Music eingeordnet. Soweit bekannt, sind da tolle Platten dabei, aber Alt Country? Der Begriff umfasst ja streng gesehen (ich beziehe mich hier auf frühere Diskussionen) die Zeit von Lone Justice bis, tja bis wann? Die Anfänge von Son Volt und Wilco? Das Frühwerk der Jayhawks?

Auch wenn man den Americana/ Alt.Country Begriff etwas weiter spannt wirkt die Liste unrund. Natürlich sind einige heiß geliebte Alben vertreten wie „Being There“, „The Mysterious Tale of How I Shouted „Wrong-Eyed Jesus!““, “ The Magnolia Electric Co.“, „I See A Darkness“, „Poor Little Critter on the Road“ & „Wrecking Ball“ (um nur mal ein paar zu nennen) anderes wird dafür schmerzlich vermisst wie Alben von Scud Mountain Boys, Souled American, Richmond Fontaine, Bad Livers, Cracker, The Walkabouts und und und.. Die RS Liste von 2001 (?) die mein Musikgeschmack nachhaltig verändert hat, bleibt weiterhin unerreicht.

Nein, OK, ist wohl doch enger gefasst, als ich gedacht hatte. Wikipedia sagt tatsächlich: Cultural origins [Alternative country ]: Late 20th century … wohl explizit als Gegenbewegung zum Nashville-Sound [der 90er]. Dann ist Gram Parsons da natürlich raus; das war ja sowieso Cosmic American Music.

Ich glaube, an die Liste erinnere ich mich. Und auch ich könnte Unmengen an Platten nennen – das kommt halt davon, wenn der Begriff nicht klar umrissen ist, dann wird die potentielle Auswahl immer größer.

Ich stimme mit Wikipedia überein: wenn man überhaupt Alt-Country definieren will, dann muss man sich auf die Verbindungen Punk zu Country oder Folk begrenzen, sonst hast du den Definitionschlamassel. Da gehören dann Jason & THe Scorchers, bestimmt Lone Justice und dann die 90er Bands wie Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt und Wilco oder The Jayhawks oder eben stilistisch Artverwandtes dazu. Klingt fast ein bisschen, als wäre der Begriff leicht historisch angehaucht (also kaum etwas neues dazugekommen).

Ja, definitiv. Oder man nimmt’s halt wörtlich: Alternative zum traditionellen Country, also Country mit Rock-Einflüssen. Ohne Rock wär’s dann wohl Indie Country. last.fm schlägt immerhin 1 1/2 Seiten an Künstlern vor, die mit dem Tag assoziiert werden können. Haben fast alle Hörer im dreistelligen Bereich. :)

Einfach, um mal eine Grenze herzustellen.
