talkinghead2 Ab und an bin ich über deinen musikalischen Geschmack sehr erstaunt, firecracker. Wäre nie darauf gekommen, dass du Al Stewart mögen und schätzen würdest.

Weil er 1991 bei seinem Konzert in New York aussah wie ein älterer Herr? ;) Macht vielleicht die Bildqualität. ;) So schlecht ist sie aber nicht. Sound ist auch ziemlich gut.

Die Last Days of the Century hatte mich ein bisschen rausgerissen …

Also wenn ich ihn so gesehen hätte, weiß ich nicht, ob ich seine Musik so gut gefunden hätte. ;)

Er war ja gar kein älterer Herr. Jetzt sieht er ja auch nicht wie ein älterer Herr aus. Paul Simon sah in den 70ern manchmal wie ein älterer Herr aus, dann nicht mehr. (Ich erwähne Paul Simon nur, weil sie in dem oben verlinkten Konzert „The Sound of Silence“ anspielen [wenn ich das richtig erkannt habe], nachdem jemand juchzt, Al Stewart aber sagt: „No, we can’t do that“ oder so ähnlich.)

Gediegen trifft’s gut.

[Auf Jackson C. Frank bin ich aber nicht durch Al Stewart oder Paul Simon gekommen, sondern Laura Marling’s eindringliches „Blues Run the Game“-Cover. Jaja, Simon & Garfunkel hatten das schon viel früher gecovert. Dass Paul Simon sein Album produziert hat, war mir auch nicht bewusst.]

Ich hoffe inständig, dass der gute Al bei uns auch nochmal vorbeischaut, bevor er in den Ruhestand geht.

In dem zuvor verlinkten Interview sagt er, dass er nicht mehr auf Tour gehen wird, aber vereinzelt noch Konzerte geben möchte – an wichtigen Orten, wie zum Beispiel in der Royal Albert Hall (die erwähnte er, glaube ich) oder so. Verstehe ich vollkommen.

Al then explains the story behind the Spanish guitar solo. He says that Alan Parsons recommended it due to the fact that the song was set on the border between France and Spain. Luckily Peter White, primarily a piano player, knew how to play Spanish guitar, took Al’s cheap Spanish guitar and played the solo that appears on the record.
