Sein Auftritt in Antonionis „La notte“ beeindruckte mich schon als Teenager, und das war dann das erste Album, das ich in die Finger kriegte. Das zweite war das Ayler-Album – ebenfalls klasse, finde ich.
Jimmy Owens ist mit Jahrgang 1943 ein paar Jahre zu jung, um in der Hard Bop-Ära (oder im frühen Soul Jazz) noch einen Auftritt gehabt zu haben. Sein Debut, mit Kenny Barron als Co-Leader, entstand 1967 für Atlantic. Ganz allgemein ein sehr unterschätzter und auch zu selten aufgenommener Musiker.

Das war wunderbar.
Das ist wirklich ein feines Album! Kannte die Sängerin davor nicht … Buck Hill hatte ich nach seinem Tod mal bei StoneFM vorgestellt, er spielt nur bei drei oder vier Stücken mit, aber das reichte schon, um mich neugierig zu machen.
