Meine nächste Sendung bei Radio StoneFM am Donnerstag den 09.05.2024 um 21:00: On the Decks Vol. 18: Mixed Tape #08Die Band mag durch Coles‘ Ausfall an Schärfe gewonnen haben – aber ich freue mich sehr über die Aufnahmen mit ihm … ein so wunderbar lyrischer Trompeter!
Im Mingus-Kontext gab es da ja mit Clarence/Gene Shaw einen Vorläufer. Wie Coles hat auch der als Leader nicht mal so viele Alben gemacht, wie wir Finger an einer Hand haben … aber beides Musiker, die mich immer wieder verzaubern. Und dafür war eben in der Musik von Mingus immer auch Platz, egal wie tumultuös diese werden konnte. Das wird am heutigen Stück sehr deutlich

ich finde da leider keinen roten Faden, und nichts begeistert mich in dem Stück; vielleicht bin ich aber nur zu wenig konzentriert

Ja, war ein wenig ein leap of faith, aus dem Konzert was zu spielen … wir sind hier an der Grenze zum Free Jazz (freier als, was Ornette Coleman damals so machte, auch wenn er die Platte „Free Jazz“ nannte). Aber mich begeistert diese Band einfach sehr und ich wollte sie dabei haben.
