Das ist die Bebop-Schule … aber zugleich hat sich das in den 15 vergangenen Jahren so entwickelt, dass die das auch ganz entspannt hinkriegen – trotz des halsbrecherischen Tempos! Dass sowas als Outtake liegen blieb, finde ich schon recht krass!

Genau! Ich empfand das keineswegs auf die Weise „schnell“, wie ich das beim „alten“ Bebop eben nicht mag.

Genau! Ich empfand das keineswegs auf die Weise „schnell“, wie ich das beim „alten“ Bebop eben nicht mag.
Das Format hat bestimmt auch was damit zu tun … nicht nur die gewonnene Vertrautheit. Bis ca. 1950 musste im Jazz halt alles in 3 Minuten untergebracht werden.

Schöne Geschichte.
Wäre heute so wahrscheinlich auch nicht mehr möglich.Und dann noch im blankweissen Palo Alto … Plakate hängen in der schwarzen Nachbarstadt ging er selbst (trotz Warnungen, das sei gefährlich) … das Publikum kam dann, wartete aber an dem Abend dann wohl erstmal draussen, ob Monk wirklich kommt, bevor Karten gekauft wurden. Monk speilte in San Francisco und musste dort auch gleich nachher wieder hin für seinen Auftritt (im Jazz Workshop, nehme ich an, hab die CD grad nicht zur Hand, gute Liner Notes im kleinen Booklet … aber die leicht – nicht schlimm, aber trotzdem – falsche Abspielgeschwindigkeit ist schon ärgerlich, sowas darf einfach nicht passieren … kommt aber bei Tonband-Aufnahmen leider immer mal wieder vor).
