WOW! What a set of songs. The performances here are just breathtaking. It appears that Interstellar Overdrive is an edit of a much longer piece, that apparently picks up at the tail end of the improv section before the main riff kicks in. I wonder what happened here? The versions of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun and Careful With That Axe, Eugene are just mind blowing and the clarity is intense. Man, when Pink Floyd was on they were a rocking band!
The version of A Saucerful Of Secrets included here is also a scorcher! What a show that must’ve been!!
Sound quality is top notch, again, in typical Floyd fashion, except with one digression. In fact, I would dare suggest that the first 3 tracks were mixed recently from the multi’s. It sounds too crystal clear and pristine for a recording that would have been mixed in 1969. But what is even stranger, is that the final track, A Saucerful Of Secrets, sounds more like an appropriate era mix from 1969, taken from a lower generation tape. It is quite hissy in comparison to the 1st three tracks, the drums sound incredibly wimpier and the guitars don’t shine as well as previously heard. Did they only have the multi’s for the first 3 songs? Odd that they would only include just these 4 songs as well, as wasn’t this gig much longer? I wonder what the story is. Sound Quality: A+ (1st three songs) / C+ (4th song)
