„Wen interessiert das heute noch?“, „Wer kennt die Band heute noch?“, „Die zehren noch von der alten Fan-Gemeinde!“
Die Erinnerung an eine aufgelöste oder inaktive Band hängt auf Gedeih und Verderb vom Engagement jedes Musikhörers ab, der einmal vom Fan-Fieber unheilbar erwischt wurde. So frage ich ganz herzlich in die Forumsrunde: Wo sind die (alten/neuen) Pavement-Fans?
Wo sind jene, die erst nach dem Band-Split im Anschluss an die Veröffentlichung der letzten Pavement-LP „Terror Twilight“ (1999) auf das US-Quintett aus Stockton aufmerksam wurden? Oder im Zuge der wohl einmaligen „Nachtrags“-Tournee im Jahre 2009. Eine Reunion? Unwahrscheinlich.
Ich habe Pavement 1999 in der Hamburger Markthalle live gesehen. Ein denkwürdiger Abend, weil ich mir den Spaß gönnte, den nervtötenden Support-Act Kreidler auszubuhen. Außerdem stand ich in der ersten Reihe und rief Steve Malkmus meinen Liedwunsch zu: „Transport Is Arranged“! Abgelehnt.
Daheim bin ich der Dirigent meiner Playlist. Ein Glück. Sonst gäbe es vielleicht nicht diesen Fave-Raves-Thread. Und ich bringe euch eine Single aus der wohl beliebtesten Pavement-LP „Crooked Rain Crooked Rain“ (1994) zu Gehör.
Zu wundervollem, melodisch-flüssigem Country-Rock besingt Steve Malkmus die Strapazen des Lebens auf der Straße und die bad jokes des musikalischen Angebots:
„Out on tour with The Smashing Pumpkins/
Nature kids, I/they don’t have no function/
I don’t understand what they mean/
And I could really give a fuck!“
Und weiter:
„Stone Temple Pilots/They’re elegant bachelors/

Hitting the nail on the head, one might say.
