Sehr schön, das hört bzw. liest man doch gerne!
Ich weiss zwar nicht genau, was die Quelle dafür ist, aber hier steht, die Gruppe hätte davor einige Jahre nicht zusammen gespielt (was ich sofort glaube Dyani und Moholo waren längst auf eigenen Pfaden unterwegs, in der Brotherhood spielte Harry Miller den Bass, Pukwana ging andere Pfade etc.
Das macht dieses ungeplante Zusammentreffen nur noch faszinierender und unfassbarer.

1966
Dudu Pukwana joins up with organist Bob Stuckey and drummer ‘Woody’ Martin to form the Bob Stuckey Trio. During 1966 they play all night Saturday gigs at ‘Ronnies Old Place’ on alternate weeks, and are regularly joined by John Surman, Mongezi Feza etc. One night they moved a piano next to the organ so Chris McGregor could join in.
The trio backed Sonny Stitt on a British tour which culminated with a BBC-2 television broadcast in December 1966. Sadly, Sonny didn’t wish to share the TV limelight with Dudu and he was not included on the gig.
1967
Dudu got his first mention in America’s ‘Downbeat’ magazine on the 23rd February ‘67 with the following quote:-
‘Tenorist Ronnie Scott’s Old Place, having a hard time breaking even, scored a financial success with the Bob Stuckey Trio, featuring the leader’s organ and altoist Dudu Pukwana’. It went on to say:- The Chris McGregor Trio is the house group at the Old Place’.
The trio later expanded to a quartet when Phil Lee joined on guitar, and this group performed twice on BBC’s ‘Jazz Club’. As a quartet they also had a regular session at the Witches Cauldron, Belsize Park
1969
Johnny Dyani joins the Spontaneous Music Ensemble
In 1969, at the Actuel Festival organised by the French record company BYG, Johnny took part in a jam which included Frank Zappa, Archie Shepp and Philly Joe Jones.In 1969 Dudu joins Hugh Masekela ’s fledgling Union Of South Africa in the USA. When that band fell apart in 1970, he returned to London and formed his own band, Spear, shortly afterwards renamed Assagai
1970
Dudu forms his own band ‘Spear’ which was soon renamed ‘Assagai’.
Johnny Dyani joins the Musicians Co-Operative.
1972
Dudu launches his second version of ‘Spear’ which includes Mongs and Louis.
1973
Staff member, Barbara, and South African musician, Dudu Pukwana married in the first of several celebrity weddings at the Africa Centre,
‘PUT IT ALL IN’ – Group formed by Larry Stabbins – sax; Harry Miller (followed by Marcio Mattos) – bass; Keith Tippett – piano; Ken Hyder – drums.

Nur so, um einen kleinen Eindruck zu kriegen … (und 1966: the mind boggles, aber Stitt der schlaue Fuchs wusste wohl schon, warum …)
McGregors Rolle war wohl zentral, Herz, Seele, Motor, Komponist, Arrangeur, Taktgeber … in der Brotherhood stellt er sein Licht ja noch viel krasser unter den Scheffel, aber anderswo (in „Very Urgent“ wohl, aber ich müsste das nochmal nachhören, bei der Menge an Gehörtem der letzten Tage verschwimmt das gerade etwas) hört man, wie er – Cecil Taylor kurz vor dem Trio mit Lyons/Murray nicht unähnlich, würde ich sagen – die Musik vom Klavier aus sehr aktiv steuert und prägt und auch heftig ins Geschehen eingreift.
Ich habe die letzten Tage nochmal ein paar Dinge bestellt, auch Solo/Trio-Aufnahmen, von denen ich bisher nur „Sea Breeze“ habe, die mir aber hervorragend gefällt (solo).
