Ich höre gerade das zweite Album des dänischen Duos. Auf dem Schluss-Track von „Pretty In Black“ (2005), dem Western-Lament „If I Was Young“, singt Sune Rose Wagner wunderbar erschöpft:
„Life it takes twisted turns/
Makes words hard to say“
Close the curtains and go to sleep.
Diese Verschnaufpause hatten er und Sharin Foo sich aber auch verdient, nach diversen 45s, die allesamt treffsicher und mächtig eingängig die Singles-Sammlung bereicherten. Ihre zweite 7″, „Beat City“, ist zugleich meine zweitliebste Raveonettes-Single.
Im Intro flackert die Gitarre, als ob ein Soundcheck-Schnipsel angetackert worden wäre: Dann rast das Duo wie auf einer Höllenfahrt davon, befeuert durch rabiate Distortion, eine dicht pumpende drum machine und subsonisches Geheul. Natural Born Killers, revisited!
„Wanna catch the rays of the sun/
Wanna drink and drive and have some fun!“
Get outta their ways or get hurt very badly!
