Jon Spencer beschreibt es ganz gut. Man kann da wirklich nur schwer zwischen Fan sein und Einfluss trennen.
Love him. I went through this long period being obsessed by him, Jerry Lee and all the Sun guys. The late ’50s and early ’60s stuff is what I like most. After he moved over to RCA started to get a little cheesy, but he was still doing some rocking stuff. But hell, I love it all. The ’70s box set is brilliant -there’s some heavy stuff. He was the greatest and he had a beautiful voice. It’s kind of sad what happened and how he lost his way and became lost in his own obsessions. It always bothers me is when people label him as a racist. I never quite figured that one out. I think it’s an easy shot that’s not true. Rock ’n’ roll has an oral tradition of borrowed ideas the same as the blues. Elvis was just part of those ideas that were passed along the line. – Jon Spencer (Mojo, 2002)
