Ab wann konnte Miles mitreden, wenn es um Albumtitel ging? Klar, „Milestones“ ist trivial, „Kind of Blue“ folgte wohl einem Trend damals (von Prestige/Moodsville bis Kenny Burrells „Midnight Blue“ ein paar Jahre später), aber ist doch ein catchy Albumtitel, „Kind of Blue“. Aber klar, wirklich gut wird’s erst mit „The Sorcerer“, „Nefertiti“, „Filles de Kilimanjaro“ etc. (und „In a Silent Way“ greift dann nochmal die KoB-Linie auf, oder?).
Mingus finde ich diesbezüglich ziemlich gut: „Pithecantropus Erectus“, „Blues & Roots“, „Mingus Ah Um“ (wobei er den Titel wohl nicht selbst wählen durfte, bei Columbia?), „Black Saint and the Sinner Lady“, „Tijuana Moods“, „Tonight at Noon“ (wohl auch kein Mingus-Titel, er stammt ja einfach von einem der Stücke, aber diesbezüglich ist Mingus meines Erachtens wiederum ziemlich unschlagbar).
Aber Sun Ra ist sowieso eine halbe Generation älter als Miles und Mingus, so gesehen wohl: ja!
