Gerald Wilson – Portraits (1963)
Gleich mal hinterhergeschoben. Gerald Wilsons musikalische Portraits of certain individual personalities that have left an indelible impression on him. So What und Round Midnight stehen natürlich für Miles und Monk, die fünf Eigenkompositionen für einen spanischen Matador (Paco), Ravi Shankar (Ravi), den armenischen Komponisten Chatschaturjan (Aram), für Eric Dolphy (Eric) und dann gibt es noch ein Stück mit dem Titel Caprichos, der in den liner notes mit moods paited musically beschrieben wird. Ein breites Interessenspektrum hatte Geralds Wilson also allemal. Wie alles andere, das ich von Gerald Wilson kenne, ist Portraits auch sehr gut.
