Various Artists – So Blue, So Funky (1991)
Bei all dem Hammond-Talk hier bin ich schwach geworden und habe diese alte billige Blue Note-Compilation rausgekramt. Hammond-Helden wie u.a. Jimmy McGriff, Big John Patton, Larry Young, Baby Face Wilette und natürlich auch der unvermeidliche Jimmy Smith greifen hier kräftig in die Tasten und treten auf die Pedale. Auf Grant Greens Ain’t It Funky Now und Lou Donaldsons Everything I Do Is Gonna Be Funky sind die Organisten – bei Green ein Emmanuel Riggins und bei Donaldson Lonnie Smith – zwar nicht die Leader aber doch so prägend, dass auch das als Orgel-Jazz durchgeht.
Eine sehr vergnügliche Platte.
