Curly Russell, Tommy Potter und all die anderen hatten nur Arbeit, weil Al McKibbon nicht JEDEN verdammten Gig spielen konnte … im Ernst jetzt, unter den Bebop-Bassisten (vor Percy Heath, vor Chambers/Watkins oder Ware … und natürlich neben Mingus und dem jungen Ray Brown sowie Oscar Pettiford) sticht der Mann heraus wie ein grosser Turm!
