Ich mochte „Coltrane Jazz“ irgendwie immer schon lieber als „Giant Steps“. Letzteres ist gewiss das wichtigere Album, aber ja, die Leichtigkeit hat „Coltrane Jazz“ für sich … liegt gewiss auch an der Rhythmusgruppe, die ich einfach besser mag. Kelly war wohl keine so offensichtliche Wahl, aber das klappt hervorragend, die ganzen Aufnahmen wirken etwas weniger verkopft, etwas weniger programmatisch als „Giant Steps“.
