Cannonball Adderley – PHENIX (1975)
Ein etwas obskures Spätwerk dieses rundlichen Mannes, auf dem er Höhepunkte seiner Karriere in elektrisch überarbeiteter Form Revue passieren lässt. Vier Monate später war er tot.
George Duke spielt auf 9 von 12 Stücken Keyboards + Synthesizer. Der elektrische bzw. elektronische Sound prägt die Platte doch ziemlich. Changiert zwischen Bossa, Nova, Hard Bop, Soul Jazz, Fusion und Smooth Jazz. Hätte auch gut auf CTI gepasst ist aber – von Orin Keepnews co-produziert – auf Fantasy erschienen. Ich höre diese Platte sehr gerne.
