Zwischen den beiden Sessions für „Ballads“ nahm Bley mit Peacock und Motian das Album „Virtuosi“ (Improvising Artists) auf – ich habe mir gerade ein recht teures Exemplar geordert … das nächste nach „Ballads“ war die erste 1968er Session, die teils auf „Paul Bley with Gary Peacock“ (ECM), teils auf „Turning Point“ (Improvising Artists) erschien, dann folgte „Mr. Joy“, Bleys einziges Limelight-Album (und das zweite für Mercury nach dem EmArcy-Album von 1954). Das Trio besteht aus Gary Peacock und Billy Elgart, es gibt die wide open spaces aber auch wilde Momente, etwa das Stück „Blood“.

B & B Wojirsch – wer immer der/die zweite B. ist. Chadbourne nennt das Album (ECM 1010) ja als massgeblich für den „ECM-Sound“, aber aufgenommen wurde in New York, ein Produzent ist nicht angegeben, aber wie so oft war das wohl Bley selbst (so schreibt auch Chadbourne), der die Aufnahmen dann irgendwo plazierte.
