Just picked up my copy yesterday and I’m about 75% through the CDs and have watched some of the DVD. So far it’s outstanding. The playing is tight and the sound is good. And the DVD is MUCH better than I expected…when it first heard it was going to be live excerpts I was a bit confused, but it does sort of work. First is a complete video of Roundabout, followed by excerpts from many tunes intercut with interviews, then finishing with a fantastic version of Machine Messiah.
Benoit sounds terrific throughout and the songs sound fresh. For comparison’s sake– I checked out Live at Montreux (from 2003) on Spotify, with Jon and Rick. I have hesitated to pick that one up as the set list isn’t as interesting to me and I wasn’t crazy about Rick’s contribution to the band at that time. To my ears, this new album is much better.
